The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is an international biomedical research institute of excellence, based in Barcelona, Spain, with more than 400 scientists from 44 countries. The CRG is composed of an interdisciplinary, motivated and creative scientific team which is supported both by a flexible and efficient administration and by high-end and innovative technologies.
The Scientific DevOps Engineer will join the Scientific IT (SIT) reporting to the Head of SIT. The team currently consists of 5 members (including the head). They manage all the storage and computational resources used for scientific research at the CRG. The post-holder will work closely with the scientific researchers, particularly bioinformaticians making heavy use of the HPC resources.
The role The Scientific DevOps Engineer will play a critical role in understanding how our Scientists are using the HPC resources available at the CRG and help them to optimize their computational workflows. By improving the efficiency of the use of the resources, the role will allow CRG to get better value for money from the infrastructure and reduce our carbon footprint.
Key tasks will include: Work with scientists to develop pipelines that use the cluster efficientlyDevelop tools and methods to simplify running workflows on the clusterDevelop and use reporting to determine where improvements in cluster usage can be madeWork with the storage and data management specialists to optimize storage use for HPC and communicate best practice for storage use by scientistsImprove existing scientific software where possibleWhom would we like to hire?
