If yes, have a look at the new position of Robotic Interaction Expert and Researcher at IAAC, the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia.
In this role you will have the opportunity to delve into research and educational projects that apply robotics, automation, interaction and design to create new digital fabrication processes in architecture with the goal of reducing the impact of the construction industry, towards a more sustainable built environment.
As a robotic hardware expert, you will be tasked with developing novel robotic fabrication processes combining industrial and autonomous robots, including the design and installation of custom hardware solutions, industrial automation lines, robotic arms, custom end-effectors and human-machine interfaces.
You will also impart teaching activities, where the learning from the research will be shared with students and professionals, in particular within the Master in Robotics and Advanced Construction (MRAC) at IAAC.
Your research will also bring you to implement those new solutions at our industry partners, transferring those technologies to the market.
Your work will entail a close collaboration with architects, engineers, computational designers, roboticists, fabrication experts, and craftspeople.
Main Tasks:
– Research on novel robotic construction applications
– Teaching to master students & professionals.
– Development of applied research and industrial applications.
– Technical support in related academic, research and professional projects.
Topics include:
– Robotic & Digital Fabrication for sustainable construction.
– Human-Machine Interaction and Augmented Reality.
– Industrial automation with heterogeneous materials.
– Sensing and AI in Manufacturing.
Skills required:
– Willing to learn, motivated, enthusiastic and social.
– Motivated to work in an innovative, multidisciplinary, and collaborative environment.
– Autonomous, able to take on responsibilities.
– Knowledgeable in industrial robots, automation hardware and manufacturing processes.
– Confident with industrial robots (KUKA, ABB, UR), PLC, open source hardware (Raspberry Pi, Pico, Arduino), coding (Python, ROS) and XR (Unity).
– Experience working with 3D modeling tools (such as Rhino3D), digital fabrication (Laser, milling, 3D Printing).
– Previous experience in academia or industry (more than 2 years).
Optional skills:
– Familiarity with Digital & Robotic Fabrication.
– Familiarity with Architecture, Design & Art.
– Travel enthusiast (in Europe or in the world).
Other requirements:
– Education Level: PhD or Master's Degree.
– Permit: Candidate should hold a full work permit for Spain.
– Language: English (Fluent) + (Fluent in Spanish desired).
Benefits:
– Permanent contract.
– Full-time position (40 h week, from Monday to Friday) in Barcelona.
– Salary: 27,000.00 – 32,000.00 € per annum, according to experience.
– Start date: flexible – latest 1st of July.
