Monocrom is a consolidated company with more than thirty years of experience in the laser field. We focus our activity on the design and manufacturing of low and high-power laser diode devices and advanced solid-state lasers with a unique patented technology in mounting laser diode bars for an outstanding performance.
Position summary: Monocrom has an ongoing project on semiconductor lasers design in collaboration with the "Grupo de Semiconductores" (GdS-Optronlab) from the University of Valladolid, with extensive experience in the characterization of semiconductors and nanostructures.
We are now seeking qualified individuals to join this project in a two-year position as a researcher in training at the University of Valladolid, with a potential subsequent incorporation at Monocrom in Vilanova i la Geltrú (Barcelona).
Position location: University of Valladolid (GdS-Optronlab)
Salary: Upon the type of contract: Research Scholarship or PhD Scholarship.
Responsibilities: Analyze composition of laser bars using photoluminescence (PL), Raman spectroscopy, and energy dispersive X-Ray spectroscopy (EDX).Participate in the design of laser diode bars in NIR and SWIR spectrum.Establish the needed reflectivity on the emission facet without overheating the chip.Simulate the transient and dynamic state of the wave inside the resonant cavity to see the effect of the temperature on the semiconductor depending on the operating conditions and thermal resistance of the mounts.Analyze degraded laser bars to check degrading mechanisms on the semiconductor with FIB and TEM techniques.Independently test electro-optic design concepts, analyze data, and report results.Report periodically to the headquarters.Desired technical skills: B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Physics, Engineering, or related scientific/technical area. One year of hands-on industry or laboratory experience with assembly, alignment, test, and troubleshooting of lasers, electro-optical systems, and optical setups.Knowledge of general laser principles.Knowledge of semiconductor physics.Ability to independently do comprehensive in-lab hands-on experimentation and data analysis.Other requirements: Performs all other duties as assigned.Familiarity with Laser and optical design and modelling basic principles is a plus.Familiarity with Laser Safety Protocols is a plus.Familiarity with project management principles.Familiarity with common industry software tools such as Zemax, Excel, BeamGage and LabVIEW is a plus.Familiarity with finite elements method software such as COMSOL Multiphysics or other scientific software is a plus.Familiarity with Design for Reliability including process development is a plus.Availability to work flexible time.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Good communication skills.Being a team-player with good adaptation to a changing environment.Applicants must be legally able to work in the EU.
