.Researcher in (Distributed) Machine Learning Systems / Networks Telefonica Innovación Digital - Discovery Research is a leading industrial research lab based in Spain. The aim of the lab is to carry research studies on mid to long-term related to several technological areas of interest to the Telefónica Group. The Research group follows an open research model in collaboration with universities and other research institutions, promoting the dissemination of their work both through publications and technology transfer. The group is constituted of a multi-disciplinary team with a variety of skills that includes systems, networks, HCI, Machine Learning and Privacy/Security.For this position, we are seeking candidates at all levels of seniority for a staff researcher position to strengthen and complement our efforts in the area of Machine Learning (ML) and Systems, with specific focus in the areas of (theoretical) Distributed or Federated ML, and how it can be applied to (mobile) systems and networks, and vice versa. Knowledge/past experience on the aspects of privacy and security for these areas will be highly appreciated.MISSIONThe researcher will have the opportunity to propose and develop research ideas individually and jointly with the rest of the research team and Telefonica at large. The researcher will also strengthen the research work via the creation and leading of strong collaborative associations with academic institutions, industrial partners, customers, and government agencies. Furthermore, the researcher will work on dissemination of research results via publications and demonstrations in major venues worldwide, generation of intellectual property, and partnership with business units to ensure the successful exploitation of research outputs.MAIN RESPONSABILITESPropose and develop research track that advances the state of the art in the field.Create and lead collaborations with academic institutions, industrial partners, customers, and government agencies.Pursue funding opportunities for personnel and/or equipment and/or research visits, via proposal writing and submission for National and/or European and/or International competitive grants.Disseminate research results via publications and demonstrations in top venues worldwide.Generate intellectual property.Partnership with business (and other Telefonica) units to promote the successful exploitation of research outputs.Supervise intern students, collaborate openly with other researchers as well as other Telefonica members.QUALIFICATIONSPh.D. in Computer Science, Telecommunication, Machine Learning, Systems & Networking, or other related fields. (Or PhD expected in next few months).Great record of research output (e.G., publications in top conferences and journals in the field, such as NeurIPS, KDD, ICML, ICLR, AAAI, MLSys, EuroSys, MobiCom, MobiSys, etc.)Strong verbal, visual, and written communication skills
