Position: Researcher in Computational Social Science
Functions and responsibilities
Conducting innovative research in the field of computational social science and complex systems in areas like information dynamics, urban sciences (e.g., mobility), trustworthy AI, digital democracy, digital humanities, etc.
Designing and implementing technological solutions. Developing tools for collecting, analysing and modelling social data, such as models that characterise social phenomena and their cascade effects.
Investigating and implementing new algorithms and approaches to solving AI problems (e.g., Natural Language Processing, Graph Neural Networks, Knowledge Graph, etc.)
Seeking funding opportunities and participating in drafting proposals, particularly EU-funded projects (e.g., Horizon Europe).
Leading consortium projects or representing your area of expertise in work package(s) within a bigger project and coordinating with other stakeholders, particularly EU-funded projects (e.g., Horizon Europe).
Leading scientific papers, publishing the research results and presenting them at academic and industrial conferences.
Reporting and disseminating project results to various audiences (teammates, project stakeholders, the scientific community, etc.).
Collaborating with researchers from various disciplines such as cognitive and behavioural science, computer vision, journalism, citizen science, etc.
Requirements
Studies and Knowledge
Holding a PhD in computer science, physics, mathematics, engineering or related disciplines.
Having proven knowledge of artificial intelligence and complex systems, particularly in computational social science methods (e.g., graph neural networks, transformers, network analysis, agent-based modelling, etc.)
Having previous experience using libraries for data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence and deep learning (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, Scikit-Learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras…)
Having previous experience with cloud-based services such as AWS infrastructure or any other cloud vendors and containerization ecosystems such as Docker and Kubernetes.
Having excellent programming skills in Python following good practices on reusable code, software documentation and version control (i.e. git)
Having previous experience in preparing proposals and participating (managing and delivering technical solutions) in R&D consortium projects, particularly EU-funded projects (e.g., Horizon Europe).
