The exciting growth of our SSE Renewables business, has led to an increased need for us to better understand these new markets we are operating in, or wish to enter. This is a fantastic new role for a Research Manager to join our Energy Portfolio Management (EPM) Energy Economics team to support our entry into new markets, by managing a team of analysts/senior analysts who will conduct research into these markets, with a focus on understanding the economics of renewable assets.
In this role, your key accountabilities will include:
- Managing the development of the SSE view of long-term wholesale power and asset capture prices and asset revenues for the Southern European electricity markets SSE Renewables is considering as part of our growth. These prices will be used to guide commercial evaluations of existing renewable generation assets, potential investment and divestment, and an assessment of the Renewables strategy.
- Managing, motivating and developing a team who are deeply engaged in the market to support the Renewables business to identify and resolve market/industry structure, price and revenue questions associated with new markets.
- Providing revenue and generation price forecasts, as well as project/portfolio specific analysis and advice on market arrangements and policy. You will also recommend on market evolution/policies that contribute to the strategic direction of our business.
- Contributing to regular reporting and market insight reports that are used to guide strategy and inform Executive Management views on new markets. You'll also be accountable for managing the relationships with third party providers of information, seeking new suppliers and building on existing partnerships to maximise our knowledge, insight and decision making ability.
- Influence the thinking of peers in industry bodies who can impact the market e.g. industry forums.
**What do I need?**
To be considered for this role, you'll need experience operating in a similar role where you've developed your energy market research and analysis skills and are familiar with the tools, techniques and data points that will be critical to successfully perform your role.
We'd also love you to have:
- Extensive Economic and Commercial modelling experience, as well as detailed knowledge of power market modelling. You'll be familiar with a variety of research skills and techniques and will have an analytical and curious mind.
- Ability to interpret, summarise and develop responses to government and industry documents, codes, legal considerations and consultancy reports. Your ability to interpret complex data and information into clear recommendations will be essential.
- Commercial awareness, with a good understanding of economics, mathematical modelling and relevant experience using spreadsheets for modelling purposes including the development of macros.
- Ability to communicate with and influence across all levels of the organisation with the ability to clearly and articulately present your views both verbally and in writing. This will be evidenced by advanced report writing and presentation skills.
- Confidence engaging and collaborating with a wide range of external stakeholders, through the ability to proactively build networks and facilitate relevant internal / external groups.
