It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, and is a founding and hosting member of the former European HPC infrastructure PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe). In instances of equal merit, the incorporation of the under-represented sex will be favoured.Context And MissionWe are looking for an enthusiast research engineer to join the Atmospheric Composition (AC) group within the Earth Sciences department at the BSC-CNS. The AC group aims at better understanding and predicting the spatiotemporal variations of atmospheric pollutants along with their effects upon air quality, weather and climate.The BSC hosts the Barcelona Dust Regional Center, which provides forecasts of mineral dusts over Northern Africa, Middle East and Europe with an ensemble of state-of-the-art numerical models. The AC group also develops and maintains its own forecast model MONARCH.The successful candidate will work along with BSC researchers, atmospheric modelling and data management experts to deliver high quality training, covering multiple aspects from the evaluation of forecast products to the exploitation of tailored aerosols products for different applications.Key DutiesCollect forecast and observational aerosols dataPrepare hands-on training sessions based on forecast and observational dataContribute to workshops and summer schools training sessionsWrite documentation, user guides and technical reportsContribute to dissemination and communication activities on aerosols scienceRequirementsEducation: A master degree on computer sciences, physics, mathematics, engineering or environmental scienceEssential Knowledge and Professional Experience:Proficiency with Python or similar programming languagesExperience in writing technical documentation in EnglishExperience with Geo-spatial dataAdditional Knowledge and Professional Experience:Experience in teaching and/or organizing training sessionsKnowledge of atmospheric science (models and/or observations)Competences:Very good interpersonal skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to take initiative, prioritize and work under set deadlinesAbility to work both independently and within a teamConditionsThe position will be located at BSC within the Earth Sciences Department.
