Job Summary The ERC-funded Cipitria Lab – Bioengineering in Regeneration and Cancer at Biogipuzkoa Health Research Institute, San Sebastián, Spain (https://cipitrialab.com) is looking for a research assistant or postdoc to establish a collaboration with the clinic and the workflow with patient-derived cells and tissue. We aim to understand how biophysical and biochemical properties of native extracellular matrix and synthetic biomaterials guide cell response in regeneration, cancer dormancy and bone metastasis. Funded by the LAB AECC from the Spanish Association for Cancer Research, the project aims at targeting dormant disseminated cancer cells to prevent metastatic relapse and developing biomaterial-based 3D bioengineered models for novel therapies.
Job Description DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Applications are welcome from research assistants or postdoctoral researchers interested in establishing a bridge between bioengineering and the clinic.
Establish a scientific collaboration with clinical partners at various hospitals and departments (Radiology, Breast Unit, Traumatology).
Define the workflow to collect and process patient-derived cells, tissue and patient data. This will include fresh samples as well as frozen or paraffin embedded tissue.
Culture patient-derived cells, tissue and organoids to develop new 3D bioengineered models.
Evaluate new drug targets and assess the effect of existing and novel therapies.
Collaborate in additional projects and become an integral member of our team.
Participate in regular consortium meetings and larger consortium events.
Contractual Conditions TYPE OF CONTRACT (LEGAL REFERENCE): will depend on the profile of the candidate, with 6-month probationary period
WORK SCHEDULE: Full time
EXPECTED START DATE: September-October 2024. The position will remain open until filled.
ANNUAL GROSS SALARY:
• POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER: 28.504€ - 34.000€ gross salary.
• TECHNICIAN/RESEARCH ASSISTANT: 20.808€ - 25.000€ gross salary.
The remuneration shall be based on the candidate's commitment and merit, as well as how suited they are for the role.
Minimum Requirements REQUIRED:
• MSc or PhD in Biotechnology, Biomedical engineering, Biomedicine or similar.
• Previous experience (preferably more than 2 years in a biomedical lab) in as many tasks as possible required for the position: biological tissue sample collection, processing, cell and tissue culture, histology, immunohistochemistry, microscopy.
• Excellent ability to conduct experiments independently and collaboratively within our group.
• Collaborative mindset and motivation to work in an international, interdisciplinary environment.
• Strong organization skills, project management and proactive "getting things done" mentality.
• Interest to learn and grow professionally in a young, dynamic and competitive lab.
• Have a genuine excitement for science, innovation and creative thinking!
• Good written and oral communication skills in English (Spanish is not required).
