Job Description Role overview The Strategic Sourcing Manager (SSM) is responsible for the development and implementation of long-term advantageous strategies for the sourcing of the Dry Animal Protein portfolio for the Petfood Business in Mars Europe. These strategies must be aligned with the Business's relevant stakeholders and priorities such as Quality, Cost, Innovation, and Service. They must anticipate industry and competitor landscape developments and safeguard Mars' sustainable competitive advantage.
In addition to strategy development and execution, the SSM is also responsible for the ongoing sourcing of the Dry Animal Protein portfolio to safeguard seamless availability of material to all European Mars sites.
This involves supplier negotiations and contract finalization, performance reviews, and new qualifications when required, as part of the Sourcing Strategy under the leadership of the SSM. The SSM will collaborate with the Global Animal Protein team as required on the development and execution of the Mars Global Animal Protein Sourcing Strategy, as well as for the identification and leverage of Best Practice across Mars Petcare globally.
To successfully perform all the above tasks, the SSM must maintain close linkage with industry developments, suppliers, and relevant internal stakeholders like R&D, Marketing, or Supply among others.
What are we looking for? Higher education in Science profile: Engineer, chemistry, food technology, quality, etc. Experience in procurement (starting 4 years or higher) Technical expertise required in the meat industry (knowing the industry, supply chains, industrial process, material, etc.) Quality experience will be a plus: Having worked in technical teams for petfood or food industry in the development of products, recipe formulation, etc. Resilient person used to working in a high-demanding work field and good stakeholder management What will be your key responsibilities? Development and Implementation of a sourcing strategy for the DAP portfolio in line with the Animal Protein frame strategy. Management and development of the supplier base in close relationship to all sites. Procurement of defined portfolio. Ensure supply of required volumes in time, manage supply base and demand volatility. Manage raw materials and meet quality standards in line with the global MQM process. Drive total cost for the raw materials and generate savings through the ideation and execution of initiatives to improve efficiencies. Close cooperation with R&D on raw materials portfolio innovation. Market forecasting and reporting to manage business risk and cost or availability exposure. Delivery of periodic inputs and participation in business monitoring processes such as Operating Plan or Risk+Ops. Representation and provision of input at selected forums where relevant.
