POSITION SUMMARY - This position is based in La Paz, Bolivia

The Program Manager for Northern Amazon is responsible for implementing the strategy of Conservation International (CI) Bolivia in the designated region, overseeing all phases of the project cycle from planning to execution and monitoring. Their main responsibility is to ensure measurable results and compliance with donor agreements.

This professional provides leadership and support to their team, fostering an integrated vision among the various components and stakeholders to achieve results while coordinating with the CI Bolivia team. Additionally, they proactively identify problems and risks, suggesting necessary adjustments to ensure the continuous progress of the program, and acting as the primary point of contact for stakeholders and local partners in the Northern Amazon landscape.

Furthermore, they establish a solid work plan that addresses the needs of the staff under their supervision, ensuring that each team member is aligned with the vision of CI Bolivia. All functions are carried out in coordination with the technical direction and are framed within the strategies of the Southern Cross, CI Bolivia, and the Amazon, which structure the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Work plans and budget development. Propose and lead the work plan and budgets for project implementation in the Northern Amazon, ensuring alignment with the strategic objectives of CI Bolivia.

Reports preparation. Coordinate with the technical direction to prepare progress reports, ensuring they are timely and accurate while meeting donor requirements. Additionally, they are responsible for providing relevant quantitative and qualitative information related to actions, results, and indicators of CI strategies.

Efficient resource management. Ensure the efficient and effective use of available resources to achieve the desired project outcomes, guaranteeing compliance with CI policies and procedures, as well as all technical and committed results requirements.

Communication and evaluation systems implementation. Establish and maintain effective communication, monitoring, and evaluation systems, ensuring transparency and a proper flow of information among all stakeholders.

Trends and solutions identification. Detect potential risks or challenges and propose solutions that facilitate the success of actions.

Indigenous and Local Communities participation and compliance with safeguards. Provide specialized support to ensure the participation of Indigenous Peoples and local communities in the different project cycles, ensuring that free, prior, and informed consent processes are correctly implemented, as well as the safeguards of CI Bolivia.

Coordination and Supervision . Supervise the work of consulting services and partner entities in the landscape, managing the necessary resources to achieve strategic goals and objectives while ensuring compliance with quality and effectiveness standards. This includes the ability to work closely with other CI members.

Communication materials and event organization. Support the production of communication materials and the organization of events in the Northern Amazon, ensuring alignment with the strategy of CI Bolivia.

Policies and protocols compliance . Ensure the correct and effective implementation of all policies, procedures, approaches, and protocols of CI Bolivia.

Personnel and team management . Lead and manage the staff under their supervision, ensuring that everyone is aligned with the regional strategy and the organization, through management based on the values of CI.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Authority Assigned

Responsible for supervising the team under their charge in CI Bolivia, with responsibilities defined based on the level of intervention.

Responsible for the preparation of terms of reference, execution, and monitoring of donations to local partners and consulting services.

Responsible for managing public or private funds, monitoring results, and recommending follow-up actions in coordination with the technical direction.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Frequent travel to various implementation areas in the Northern Amazon region.

This position follows a hybrid work structure, working some days from the office and some remotely. Guidance will be shared during the interview process.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

Education, Experience, Capabilities, and Skills

Bachelor's degree in environmental sciences, forestry, economics, or related disciplines.

4 to 6 years of experience in designing and managing conservation and development initiatives, with experience in project management.

Up to 2 years of experience supervising and motivating multicultural teams.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with fluency in both Spanish and English.

Ability to identify problems and propose effective solutions, combined with good analytical skills and interaction with various institutions.

Strong organizational skills, time management, and the ability to work effectively with diverse groups in a multicultural environment.

Ability to work well under pressure, manage multiple tasks, set priorities, and deliver quality results.

Knowledge of sustainable development, conservation, climate change, gender, equity, human rights, and Indigenous Peoples issues.

Good proficiency in office and computer tools.

Availability to travel within Bolivia and outside of Bolivia, both in urban and rural areas.

Additional Skills

Ability to inspire and guide a diverse team, fostering a collaborative and motivating environment.

Ability to develop and implement long-term strategies that align with program objectives and CI Bolivia.

Strong focus on achieving results and continuous evaluation of project impact.

Ability to propose and apply creative and innovative solutions to complex challenges.

Ability to establish and maintain relationships with other organizations, donors, and key actors in the field of conservation and sustainable development.

Preferred

Master's degree in a related field.

Experience working with Indigenous peoples, local grassroots organizations, and in the Amazon.

Driver's license
