The Process Safety Manager Europe lends technical process safety support to the facilities and acts as an initial point of contact to the Global Process Safety Working Group (COE).
The role supports by coordinating and leading GPS activities and interventions at the regional level. Additionally, it brings a detailed understanding of the facilities in the region and requires a solid technical background with a good understanding of process safety, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work with and coordinate activities across multiple facilities.
The Process Safety Manager Europe shall report to the Regional Safety Director, with dotted line reporting to the Global Process Safety Director:
Coordinate implementation and management of the process safety program for the region, with emphasis on elements common to all businesses and process technologies. Provide local expertise and support during a Process Safety incident, including on-site Emergency Response support as needed. Lead or support process hazard analysis as needed from local facilities. Lead, facilitate or participate in Root Cause Investigations (RCIs) in the region, depending on the (potential) severity of the event and/or complexity of the investigation.
Ensure action items are identified, documented, and closed to eliminate future incidents in the affected facility. Identify and escalate those action items which could or should be leveraged to other facilities with similar hazards. Review and assess GPS incidents in the region to ensure proper classification and follow-up. Provide guidance and interpretation of global process safety requirements. Provide guidance and interpretation of local jurisdictional process safety requirements. Monitor progress in closing action items related to GPS (audits, Process Hazard Analyses, Compliance Plans, gap assessments, etc.)
Follow up and assist facilities when process safety expertise or knowledge is an issue to closing the action items. Facilitate and organize regional meetings with Site Process Safety Coordinators. Deliver and/or coordinate with the Global Process Safety Working Group (GPSWG) training for the region. Act as the Process Safety Subject Matter Expert (SME) Reviewer on Management of Change (MOC) requests. Provide coaching and/or mentoring to the facility Process Safety Coordinator. Lead or facilitate Regional Process Safety network meetings.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. Minimum of 5 years of experience in Operations, Technology COE, Engineering or EHS. Fluency in English.
Other Qualifications:
Working knowledge of process safety tools such as HAZOP, LOPA, etc. Experience as a facility Process Safety Coordinator / Technology Engineer or Process Engineer. Demonstrated influential leadership capabilities. Strong interpersonal and team-building skills. Ability to defend difficult/unpopular decisions with data, facts, and RAGAGEPs. Fluency in one or more of the languages spoken in the region.
