Principal Energy Markets and Policy, Infrastructure, Energy, Environment and Sustainability Public Policy, EMEA Would you like to be part of a public policy team at the forefront of the energy transition? At Amazon Web Services (AWS) we are on a path to powering our infrastructure with 100% carbon free energy by 2025 and are the largest corporate renewable energy purchaser in the world (and Europe) with more than 20GW of announced renewable capacity. Electricity from the grid is powering AWS data centres across Europe, and the AWS Cloud is powering the digitalization of organizations that are working towards decarbonizing the grid. Put this altogether and AWS is at the centre of the energy transition.
We are looking for an energy policy professional with experience navigating complex energy regulations, market rules, and grid deployment to lead our energy policy work in Spain and other European countries where we operate AWS Cloud Regions. The successful candidate will have a deep policy understanding of the energy industry, particularly of market processes and transmission deployment in Spain and will be a native Spanish speaker. They will lead the development of AWS' energy policy positions and advocacy strategy in Spain, and implement that strategy in partnership with a wider, cross-functional team. They will be suitably flexible to apply their knowledge and experience in other European countries, as required.
Key job responsibilities:
Develop and execute advocacy strategies that support energy and infrastructure development in Spain.
Manage policy priorities and lead engagements with Spanish electricity policymaking organizations, including the TSO, Red Electrica, and the Regulator, National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC).
Deepen relationships with external stakeholders and experts to identify opportunities and risks arising from policy and regulatory developments.
Work closely with internal business partners to craft and contribute to policy submissions and engage in consultations with relevant regulators.
Contribute to energy policy advocacy efforts within AWS, including coordinating and developing public policy collateral such as policy position papers and talking points.
Provide expert advice to internal business partners and assist them in developing their respective business strategies.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
Relevant public policy experience on issues pertaining to the electricity system and infrastructure policy. Experience working on energy regulation is essential, ideally in Spain.
Knowledge of the electricity industry in Spain and experience working within and around the industry is necessary.
Strong English language skills – both written and verbal and fluent Spanish language.
Ability to travel – primarily within Europe - as needed.
