Our very busy award-winning EMC team is looking for an EMC Engineer to support the delivery of a varied and exciting project portfolio. This is a great opportunity for an experienced Engineer looking to join a well-established EMC team and further expand their career and EMC technical knowledge.You will be supporting the delivery of EMC consultancy services to major rail clients such as Network Rail, HS2, Alstom, Siemens, Volker Rail, and Transport for London, as well as clients in other sectors (defence, energy, built environment) to ensure the projects are compliant with applicable Electromagnetic Compatibility regulations and standards.This involves working closely with the client from concept and design right through to delivery, documenting and demonstrating EMC, calculating and modelling electromagnetic interference, and getting involved with required EMC testing activities. The role requires regular interaction with clients and project stakeholders.Reporting to the EMC Team Leader, your role will be primarily technical, helping the Principal EMC Engineer to deliver to the right quality and timescales. You will be involved in EMC assurance on railways, as well as non-railway related projects (e.g., transmission and generation), and be responsible for and/or support the preparation of EMC-related assurance documents such as EMC Strategies and Control Plans.You will also take part in and/or chair EMC HAZID workshops, prepare and manage EMC hazard records, be involved in modelling work (e.g., induced voltage studies, calculate magnetic fields, etc.) using our software tools, and produce standalone EMC assessments to check that client requirements are met. You will also get involved in EMC site test measurements and other on-site activities (e.g., surveys).Minimum Requirements:Working toward Chartered status.A good understanding of AC and DC traction power systems and their interfaces.A good understanding of the applicable UK regulatory framework for EMC (e.g., UK EMC Regulations 2006, supporting UK designated standards, etc.).An understanding of DC and Low Frequency sources of interference (e.g., harmonics) and coupling mechanisms.A growth mindset and an ability to learn quickly on the job.Good verbal and written communication skills.Good interpersonal and organisational skills.While non-essential, any of the following skills would be desirable:An understanding of DC stray current issues and their management and Physical Agents (EMF) Directive 2004/40/EC and the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) limits.An understanding of earthing & bonding principles on AC and DC railways and their implications regarding electrical safety.An understanding of computer modelling techniques commonly applied to the analysis of traction power and associated EMC-related issues.We have a collegiate and collaborative culture that values equality and diversity, and we take proactive steps to create an inclusive workplace.
