.Proyecto de Generación de Conocimiento 2023 by the Spanish Ministry of Science and InnovationIntroduction to the vacant position:The Spatial Biotechnology Group is looking for a talented and highly motivated Early Stage Researcher (PhD student) to develop his/her PhD thesis project on the development of experimental and computational approaches to study clonal behaviors in tumors. The candidate will use these approaches to carry out a PhD focused on molecular mechanisms and cellular organization of the tumor microenvironment. The candidate will use cutting-edge multiplexed tissue technologies, in vitro co-culture systems, engineered tumors, high-resolution imaging, assay automation, and computational tools for deconstruction of molecular and cellular spatial patterns in cells and tissues. This fellowship is associated with the Generación de Conocimiento research project "Development of new multi-omic spatial methods to profile clonal events in cancer", funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation.Main tasks and responsibilities:1. Investigate molecular mechanisms and cellular organization:Design and execute experiments to study clonal behaviors in tumors.Utilize cutting-edge technologies to probe the tumor microenvironment. Work with multiplexed tissue technologies, in vitro co-culture systems, and engineered tumors.Analyze molecular interactions and spatial arrangements of cells within tumors.- Deconstruct spatial patterns:Processing of fluorescence, sequencing, and mass spectrometry imaging data.Implement and refine computational methods for analyzing spatial patterns in cells and tissues.Identify key molecular and cellular patterns associated with tumor behavior.- Disseminate research findings:Prepare and present research findings at lab meetings and scientific conferences.Publish research results in peer-reviewed journals.Contribute to the scientific community through active participation and collaboration.Requirements for candidates:Essential:Degree in bioinformatics, chemistry, physics, biotechnology, biomedicine, or related fields.Experience with molecular biology techniques (e.G., PCR, cloning), immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization and cell culture.Experience programming and scripting in Python and/or R.Candidates should be ready to enter an official doctoral programme in December 2024 (under Spanish Law). By this time, they must have obtained a university degree and a master's degree; or must hold an official university qualification from a country of the European Higher Education Area with a minimum of 300 ECTS of official university studies, of which at least 60 are at master's level. Candidates who expect to be awarded with such degrees by October 2024 are eligible to apply.Candidates must have a strong commitment to scientific research and an excellent academic record.Candidates must have a good working knowledge of English.Candidates must not yet have been awarded a doctoral degree
