Offer Description The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) is a cutting-edge institute addressing global public health challenges through research, translation into policy, and education. ISGlobal has a broad portfolio in communicable and non-communicable diseases including environmental and climate determinants, and applies a multidisciplinary scientific approach ranging from the molecular to the population level. Research is organized in five programs: Climate, Air Pollution, Nature and Urban Health; Environment and Health over the Lifecourse; Global Viral and Bacterial Infections; Malaria and Neglected Parasitic Diseases; and Maternal Child and Reproductive Health. ISGlobal is accredited with the Severo Ochoa distinction, a seal of excellence of the Spanish Science Ministry.
What We Are Looking for:
ISGlobal is seeking a motivated PhD student who is interested in performing exposome analyses in relation to child and adolescent health behaviours and health as part of the YEAH! project. The Youth Health from a Holistic Perspective (YEAH!) project is a HORIZON-RIA EU funded project starting on January 1st 2025. The overall project goal is to co-create an innovative intervention using digital solutions to promote social interactions that empower children and adolescents to make lifestyle choices that benefit their health and well-being. The intervention will be personalized and designed to reach a large proportion of children and adolescents in the EU.
The PhD will be embedded within work package 1 of the project, focusing on data-driven exposome analyses to identify socio-environmental determinants of youth health behaviours and health. We will use an exposome approach integrating determinants at the individual level (e.g., habits), the interpersonal level (e.g., social support), and the contextual level (e.g., access to green) to identify which of these multiple factors to include as targets for the intervention; thereby considering those that are common to young people from diverse contexts. We are seeking a PhD candidate with strong data analysis skills to become involved in this research and conduct exposome analyses on data from four population-representative cohorts across the EU.
The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Carmen Peuters and Prof. Dr. Payam Dadvand and will collaborate with other YEAH! researchers specialized in epidemiology and child health. The PhD student will form part of the ISGlobal community and will be enrolled as a student in the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF).
