Offer Description
We invite applications for a 1-year position as a pre-doctoral support researcher in time-domain astronomy at the Institute of Cosmos Sciences at the University of Barcelona (ICCUB), Spain. The successful candidate will join the research group led by Dr. Nadejda Blagorodnova as part of the ERC-funded project CET-3PO.
The group's research focuses on the study of the common envelope phase in massive binaries via observations of luminous red novae (LRNe) transients. As a member of the research group, the successful candidate will perform tasks of support with target selection and observations, application for telescope time, development of data reduction pipelines, and data reduction tasks for photometry, spectroscopy, and polarization data. The candidate will also carry out multi-wavelength analysis using time-domain survey data for the transients of interest.
An MSc in astronomy or a related field is required. Positions can start as early as October 2024. The remuneration includes full benefits and a limited research and travel allowance.
The ICCUB is an interdisciplinary centre hosting a vibrant fundamental research program in cosmology, astrophysics, and particle physics, with a strong technology unit supporting our participation in international collaborations in observational astronomy and experimental particle physics.
