Postdoctoral Researcher in Public Opinion and Urban Mobility (2024DILIFRUA153)The Geography Department and the GEMOTT research group at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) are offering a fully-funded two-year postdoctoral position within the ATRAPA project. This initiative, supported by the European Research Council, seeks to address the "active travel backlash paradox" by identifying the factors that shape public opposition and acceptability towards Built Environment-based Sustainable Travel Interventions. Focusing on survey data and public opinion, part II of the project will design and implement large-scale surveys across 8 European cities to identify the personal, social, and contextual factors influencing public attitudes towards transformative urbanism interventions.
The postdoctoral researcher will play a senior role in the project's survey design and implementation, co-supervise doctoral students, and coordinate data analysis related to public opinion and urban mobility. The successful applicant will become a core member of the GEMOTT team (which includes the Principal Investigator, 4 postdoctoral researchers, 8 PhD students, and two Research Assistants), will be based at UAB's Geography Department, and work within ICTA-UAB. Candidates are expected to live and work in the Barcelona area.
Job position requirements (skills/languages/required experience) PhD related to geography, social sciences, environmental sciences, political science, or economics. Expertise in survey design, public opinion research, statistical analysis, proficiency in English (additional European languages are a plus), and a demonstrated track record in mobility research and collaborative project work.
Responsibilities: Developing a conceptual framework to investigate personal, social, and contextual factors influencing public acceptability and opposition to BESTI interventions, such as bike lane expansions, pedestrianization, and 15-minute city policies.Designing and implementing large-scale geolocated public opinion surveys across 8 European cities, and conducting longitudinal analysis of survey responses to track changes in attitudes over time.Leading data analysis efforts to understand variations in public acceptability and opposition across different urban contexts, focusing on the determinants of individual attitudes toward urban mobility interventions.Salary: 43000 €, gross annual salary, flexible work-time, 37.5h/week
