Postdoctoral Researcher in Machine Learning : The University of Barcelona is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher for a 2-year position, starting June–September 2024, to contribute to the Horizon Europe research project "Models, Assessment, and Policies for Sustainability (MAPS)." The researcher will focus on applying machine learning methods within ecological macroeconomic models to better model environmental and social outcomes. The project aims to assess different policy packages for achieving a sustainable economy, particularly exploring "post-growth" approaches beyond GDP. The successful candidate will be part of an international team based at the Faculty of Economics, University of Barcelona.
Designation: Postdoctoral Researcher
Research Area: Machine Learning for Ecological Macroeconomic Models
Location: University of Barcelona, Spain
PhD in computer science, engineering, natural sciences, sustainability science, ecological economics, or a related field.
Track record of relevant research publications in internationally recognized journals.
Expertise in machine learning methods.
Strong programming skills in open-source languages (e.g., Python, C, Julia).
Interest in the environmental and social impacts of artificial intelligence.
Motivation and initiative to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Fluency in English.
Job Description:
Apply machine learning methods within an ecological macroeconomic model.
Join an international team developing a new model for assessing human well-being and environmental sustainability.
Explore broader questions related to the impact of AI on society.
Contribute to the assessment of policy packages for a sustainable economy.
Work in the Faculty of Economics, University of Barcelona, under the primary supervision of Dr. Daniel O'Neill.
