It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, and is now hosting entity for EuroHPC JU, the Joint Undertaking that leads large-scale investments and HPC provision in Europe.
The mission of BSC is to research, develop and manage information technologies in order to facilitate scientific progress.
BSC combines HPC service provision and R&D into both computer and computational science (life, earth and engineering sciences) under one roof, and currently has over 1000 staff from 60 countries. We are particularly interested for this role in the strengths and lived experiences of women and underrepresented groups to help us avoid perpetuating biases and oversights in science and IT research.
In instances of equal merit, the incorporation of the under-represented sex will be favoured. We promote Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, fostering an environment where each and every one of us is appreciated for who we are, regardless of our differences.Context And MissionThe Computational Genomics group, led by ICREA professor Toni Gabaldón, is looking for a talented and highly motivated Computational Scientist or Computational Biologist with a strong background in bioinformatics, integrative analysis, and machine learning.
The hired candidate will join our Comparative Genomics group and contribute to groundbreaking research at the intersection of artificial intelligence and genomics.
The project will be centered on developing artificial intelligence based tools to predict relevant biological or clinical features from diverse genomics data, and exploring the application of recently developed large language models (LLMs) to study the evolution of biological sequences, microorganisms, and microbial communities.
The selected candidate should have a PhD or equivalent experience in a computational biology or bioinformatics area, or will have a strong expertise in artificial intelligence and large language models and a strong motivation to move into its application on biologically oriented research.
The candidate will join a dynamic research group within the Life Sciences department where will work in a sophisticated HPC environment and will have access to systems and computational infrastructures.Priority will be given to highly motivated and proactive candidates with the ambition to develop their career in the field of computational genomics and biomedicine.
