Postdoctoral Fellow - Dayton Group - Cancer-Genoxic

Detalles de la oferta

At EMBL Barcelona we study how tissues and organs develop and function in health and disease.
Postdoctoral Fellow - Dayton Group - Cancer-GENOXICResearch
Barcelona, Spain
The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organizations in the world. The newest EMBL site is located in the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB), one of the largest infrastructures in Southern Europe dedicated to translational research.
The main focus of the EMBL Barcelona site is in tissue biology and disease modeling. This particular position is for a PostDoc researcher to work in the laboratory of Dr. Talya Dayton at EMBL Barcelona as part of the grant PID2023-152948NA-I00 funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and by the ESF+.
The Dayton lab develops 3D in vitro organoid models of human tissue (airway/lung and patient tumors) to recapitulate developmental and cancer phenotypes of a specialized, hormone-producing cell type, the neuroendocrine cell. The group has two broad areas of interest – development and cancer – and we are interested in understanding how developmental and cancer pathways intersect and can be manipulated for patient benefit. More information about the lab can be found on their website: Dayton Group.
Dr. Dayton aims to create an inclusive & fun team environment where team members support and inspire each other so that they can solve problems and address important questions together. Dr. Dayton is committed to supporting the career development of her team members.
Your roleWe are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to work on a project using human organoid models to understand how hypoxia, nicotine, and genetic perturbations influence the plasticity of pulmonary neuroendocrine cells and their susceptibility to cancer. Ultimately, we aim to generate genetically engineered human organoid models of neuroendocrine cancer. The project will involve international collaborations with clinicians and environmental epidemiologists as well as the generation and analysis of single cell -omics datasets. Many details of the project can be tailored to fit the candidate's particular expertise and interests. This specific position is for a 3-year appointment with the possibility and expectation for renewal.
The successful candidate will be intrinsically motivated, will lead their own project, contribute to other projects on a collaborative basis (both in the lab and with external collaborators), and may guide PhD and Masters students in their research. Importantly, the candidate will contribute to shaping the environment and research of a young and growing research team.
Minimum RequirementsPhD and/or MD or equivalent doctoral degreeDemonstration of expertise in the form of published paper(s) or preprintsStrong practical skills in primary cell cultureKnowledge of advanced gene editing techniques and CRISPR/Cas9-based screensAbility to prioritize, see the big picture, and nevertheless focus on detailsAbility to work independently, quickly set up effective networks and working relationshipsExcellent verbal and written communication skills in EnglishDon't meet every single requirement? We are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, so if you're excited about this role but your past experience doesn't align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You might also haveExperience with advanced bioinformatic toolsExperience in 3D organoid modelsSkills in advanced microscopy techniques is an assetThe position provides excellent opportunities for complementing your existing skills with new ones, building up your research profile in organoid models of health and disease and biomedicine, and making a contribution towards understanding how tumors are formed and progress.
We offer a diversified job in a young, scientifically oriented, international team in one of the most renowned research institutions worldwide.
EMBL is an inclusive, equal opportunity employer offering attractive conditions and benefits appropriate to an international research organization with a very collegial and family-friendly working environment.
