The Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) is a public sector institution that promotes and develops the research, innovation, and biosanitary teaching of the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital. Through the excellence of our research, we identify problems of society and contribute to spreading them around the world. In April 2015, the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) obtained the recognition of the European Commission HR Excellence. This recognition proves that VHIR endorses the general principles of the European Charter for Researchers and a Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers (Charter & Code). VHIR embraces Equality and Diversity. As reflected in our values, we work toward ensuring inclusion and equal opportunity in recruitment, hiring, training, and management for all staff within the organization, regardless of gender, civil status, family status, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability, or race.Postdoc in Computational BiologyThe Cancer Computational Biology Group, headed by José A. Seoane, PhD, leverages epi(genetic) cancer datasets to unmask the molecular mechanisms implicated in cancer initiation, progression, drug resistance, and metastasis toward improved outcomes for patients. We are also exploring how the machine learning-based integration of multi-omic datasets can facilitate the discovery of new cancer subgroups and biomarkers, as well as help to better predict treatment outcomes and drug response. We are seeking a computational scientist with an interest in cancer research to support leading biologists/physicians of the different groups of VHIO and external collaborators. The group supports a healthy work-life balance and offers a 4 years full-time (40 hours) appointment.JOB DESCRIPTIONEducation and qualifications:Required:PhD Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Engineering, Mathematics or similarSpecific training in Machine Learning or Data ScienceFluency in English (business level)Desired:Additional training in bioinformaticsExperience and knowledge:Required:Experience in machine learning and/or data scienceHigh motivationDesired:Knowledge of main machine learning packages in R/PythonMatlabExperience in the analysis of genomics, digital pathology, cancer, and/or epigenetics-related datasets is desired but not requiredMain responsibilities and duties:Develop pipelines for multi-omic/WSI classification or clustering of cancer datasets.Study the state-of-the-art of the multi-omic algorithm for prediction and clustering.Develop the methodology for developing and testing multi-omic pipelines.Testing of new algorithms, adapt previously developed algorithms.Give support to the members of the lab in similar tasks.#J-18808-Ljbffr
