PhD position in prediction and optimization of sustainability indicators through Digital Twins to join the European Project "SOSFood" We seek an Engineer in Computer Science or related disciplines to join our team at CiTIUS (Research Centre in Intelligent Technologies of the University of Santiago de Compostela) in Spain.
The candidate will be enrolled in the Doctoral Program in Information Technologies at USC to develop a PhD thesis related with the Horizon Europe project "Sustainability Optimization for Secure Food Systems (SOSFood)", for prediction and optimization tasks on sustainability indicators by digital twin-based modeling.
SOSFood proposes to use the great potential of data exploitation and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to provide a holistic and comprehensive image of the European food system.
The project will develop tailored predictive tools to support all stakeholders of the food chain to make well-informed decisions to transform the food system to be more productive, inclusive, sustainable, and resilient, with a multi-factorial, multi-actor and multi-scale approach.
The doctoral candidate will collaborate with companies and multidisciplinary teams involved in the project, facilitating data sharing and knowledge exchange to enhance efficiency and sustainability in the food system.
Key Responsibilities: Design and implementation of edge-based digital twin architecture.
Automation of synchronization between physical and virtual spaces.
Continuous data integration and feedback for model evolution.
Sustainability assessment of AI-based services through digital twin integration.
Documenting technical progress and experimental results, contributing to scientific publications in the areas of digital twins, process optimization, and sustainability.
Evaluation criteria: Bachelor and Master (300 ECTS) in Computer Science or related disciplines.
Knowledge on digital twin-based modeling.
Good academic record.
Great motivation for scientific work and ability for teamwork.
Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to deal with and prioritise a range of ongoing tasks at the same time.
Ability to devise, review, and deliver complex procedures, and work independently towards pre-defined goals, maintaining accuracy and precision in all areas of work.
Contract period: 01/03/2025 – 31/12/2027 34 months full-time contract.
Salary according to Spanish pay scale for Predoctoral Researcher in Training Funds for attendance to scientific conferences worldwide.
Work in multidisciplinary team.
