Job Purpose: This position is accountable for on-site commissioning activities on designated complex projects. The Senior Commissioning Field Engineer works with the Project Manager and the District Service Manager to develop and implement the technical and logistical strategy for the successful installation and commissioning of assigned projects. The Commissioning Field Engineer's (CFEs) main task is to develop and oversee the strategy for on-site installation, commissioning and final customer acceptance of assigned packages. The CFE is the focal point for communications and solutions of engineering problems during the commissioning phase of a project. He/she must be self-initiated and capable of directing personnel and resources at the work site during critical stages of the project and must be willing to travel for extended periods of time to both domestic and international locations. Close coordination and good communication with Customers, contractors and Solar groups such as Field Service, Project Management, Design Engineering, Test, Response Center, etc. is required. This position is essential to ensure that Solar's risk is managed on complex projects, customer issues during commissioning are resolved efficiently and that the project is successfully executed and handed over. Responsibilities: Prepare for and develop a thorough knowledge of each assigned project by tracking it through project execution. Participate in kick-off, design review and pre-commissioning meetings where possible for assigned projects. Identify and communicate potential project problems to Business Management, the District or the appropriate engineering discipline. Work with the Project Manager and the District to develop the technical and logistical strategy for the commissioning of the project. Act as a lead FSR and assist field personnel on the solution of field problems related to the installation and commissioning of projects. Assist the customer in developing a realistic schedule for installation and commissioning. Anticipate and remove roadblocks that could impede progress. Provide guidance to junior level FSRs. Document activities through comprehensive field activity reports. Ensure all contractual requirements are met and transfer ownership to the customer. Report feedback on field issues to Engineering and the Commissioning group in a closed loop, corrective manner. Assist engineering and the commissioning group in establishing procedures and processes related to installation and commissioning of equipment. Position Qualifications: The position requires experience in turbomachinery operations and maintenance and knowledge of the general principles relating to gas turbines and their driven equipment. Proficiency in the troubleshooting of turbomachinery and its related systems, specifically control systems, is required. Excellent administrative and written/verbal communication skills in English are extremely important. Good interpersonal and communications skills are required as the CFE often facilitates diplomacy between Solar and the end-user. Three to five years of previous field experience and/or experience as a level IV FSR is a strong desire. A bachelor's degree in a technical discipline, or the equivalent practical experience in a technical background is required.
