The Cloud Architecture Team is seeking a Systems Performance Modelling & Analysis Engineer with experience in workload profiling, characterization and in-depth workload performance analysis, performance modelling, and proposing innovations in ISA, CPU core and SoC microarchitecture, novel memory hierarchy, accelerators, network, and overall system architecture.
The engineer will drive performance modelling and analysis to evaluate new technology integration and architecture opportunities for next generation cloud hardware platforms, as well as work with application partners to prepare cloud workloads for complex new hardware. We are a part of a highly capable and motivated cross-disciplinary team responsible for delivering cutting-edge, highly efficient solutions to power Microsoft's next-gen datacentres and computing needs.
The team charter is to define the next generation Azure cloud computer architecture with data driven analysis based on deep workload understanding. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with architects in the Azure services team, various software development teams across Microsoft's online properties, and internal and external hardware engineering teams working on silicon and systems architecture.
Responsibilities Develop and/or extend functional and timing models of complex SOCs and validate them against other models or hardware reference systems Understanding the operation of complex datacentre workloads Build, document and maintain internal tools, scripts and analysis methods as needed to carry out robust and automated performance analysis Utilize external and internal tools to characterize, profile and analyse key cloud workloads. Define the next generation computer architecture for the cloud at all levels of innovation to create a datacentre that is truly optimized (performance, power, and cost) for Azure's cloud critical workloads. Qualifications B.S. in Computer Engineering or related field or equivalent experience (M.S. or Ph.D. desirable) with extensive years of relevant experience Proficiency in computer/SoC architecture, micro-architecture, workload analysis, bottleneck analysis and performance trade-offs Functional and Timing Model development and analysis experience for Arm, x86 and RISCV ISAs Excellent (written and verbal) communication and collaboration skills in English C/C++ & Python programming skills Experience using modern software development techniques and workflows such as continuous integration and continuous delivery
