.About QbeastAt Qbeast, we believe in transforming the way the tech world processes and analyzes data. Data has become the lifeblood of modern activities, and its importance grows daily with the rise of cutting-edge AI workloads. The demand for efficient, cost-effective, and scalable data solutions has never been higher.Just like the Cubism Art Movement changed the way to perceive reality in the early 20th century, we at Qbeast crave for radically different approaches to storing and processing data.Qbeast is an early-stage startup on a mission to accelerate data analytics for Data Lakehouses—independent of query engine or table format. Born from research at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), Qbeast's foundation lies in groundbreaking multi-dimensional indexing techniques. We envision a future in which this core indexing technology initially becomes an essential piece of data infrastructure and over time expands to touch every critical aspect of data engineering, from storage all the way to query engines, redefining how we approach current and future AI workloads. Our goal is to make this technology accessible worldwide, across clouds, and reshape the landscape of data processing. With headquarters in Barcelona and Seattle, we are a diverse, international team driven by passion and expertise. Backed by strong funding, we have the resources and time to craft a product that delights our customers. We value flexibility, offering a hybrid remote work model and adaptable working hours. The OpportunityWe are seeking a Performance Engineer to join our team and take charge of evaluating and optimizing the performance of our core indexing technology and product stack. Performance evaluation is at the heart of our mission to accelerate analytics over Data Lakehouses, making this role pivotal to our success. You will run industry-standard benchmarks, design new evaluation methods, and collaborate closely with the team to deliver innovative features that set us apart in the market. As a Performance Engineer, you will:Regularly run benchmarks widely used in the database industry (e.G., TPC-H, TPC-DS) on Qbeast-indexed data.Design and develop new benchmarks to showcase the advantages of Qbeast indexing technology.Analyze benchmark results to identify and diagnose performance issues, including query plan analysis.Update and maintain regression benchmark processes for continuous integration.Report performance results through internal presentations, blog posts, videos, and by representing Qbeast at conferences and meetups.Contribute to other areas of interest as needed—in a startup, there's always something new to tackle. What We Are Looking For:Experience: At least three years in a professional performance engineering role.Education: A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.Technical Skills:- Strong experience with performance evaluation and SQL query optimization.- Expertise in performance tools and analytical methods
