Job Description Summary: The Controls & Operability team is seeking a controls engineer with controls expertise.
The GE Vernova plant controls product "WindCONTROL" is an integral part of the wind product portfolio and plays an important role to meet grid code requirements.
The controls engineer role is a global engineering role where the scope includes design, implementation, and validation of plant control features that meet product grid compliance.
The broad scope of responsibility provides an opportunity to grow the grid system skills and be part of the team to drive the energy transition.
Roles and ResponsibilitiesExecute wind turbine controls system and software developmentPerform Failure Mode and Effects Analysis and develop comprehensive requirements for wind turbine software features and componentsDevelop test cases and perform controls software validationCreate engineering documentation, including bills of material, drawings, specifications, and manufacturing & field instructionsAs part of the broader control system design, interface with the turbine controls team and incorporate operability requirements into the plant controller designSupport new product developments for new grid feature introduction (voltage control, frequency control, ramp rate control, power curtailment, etc.)
supporting the new unit business and serviceEffectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation, and presentation of technical data to internal and external GE customers using reports, records, and lettersContribute to the continuous improvement of the controller development and grid simulation infrastructureOccasionally travel to site to support product testing and/or customer issuesRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering from an accredited UniversityDesired CharacteristicsExperience in an engineering position dealing with controls and electrical and electronic system designFluency in EnglishMasters of Science Degree in Controls Engineering, Computer, Electrical Engineering or related disciplineExperience in design and/or modeling of controls systemsFamiliar with electrical grid operation and power systems controlStrong analytical approach to problem solvingExperience with the grid market including renewable integration and required servicesHighly motivated, self-starter, energetic, positive, flexible in changing environmentsAbility to demonstrate a structured approach to problem solving and learning agilityExcellent communication skills and ability to articulate technical problems in clear and simple termsStrong interpersonal skills, ability to work in project teams in an international environmentSolid understanding of programming basicsWind Turbine Technology Experience is a strong plus but not requiredExperience with Model-Based Design techniques using Mathworks Simulink or comparable toolAdditional InformationRelocation Assistance Provided: Yes
