The People team is responsible for the entire lifecycle of the employee journey at Preply, including onboarding and offboarding compliance, total rewards and benefits, HR systems and analytics as well as key HR projects such as employee engagement, career development and frameworks.
The Payroll Specialist is mainly responsible for the Spanish payroll cycle, ensuring total compliance with local regulations in labour, social security, and tax matters.
What you'll be doing: Manage all Spanish payroll activities in line with the monthly payroll calendar and submit the payroll figures monthly.
Ensure compliance with legislation and statutory requirements.
Collaborate with all stakeholders in the validation process of payroll inputs to ensure accuracy.
Reconcile pre-processing reports to ensure the accuracy of information before processing payroll, validating data inputs in line with Spanish legislation.
Research discrepancies in payroll information/documentation to ensure accuracy and adherence to procedures before processing.
Maintain payroll information, files, and records to provide up-to-date reference and audit trail for compliance.
Analyze payroll-related information to ensure accurate distribution of funds, payroll, and ledger input.
Review the monthly Social Security contributions and resolve any issues that compromise monthly payments to Social Security.
Review tax activities (monthly/quarterly withholding taxes) such as tax models to the AEAT (models 111, 216, 190, 296, etc).
Ensure other obligations are correctly submitted by our vendor (CRA, Registro Retributivo, etc).
Be responsible for month-end and year-end activities, reconciling the payroll summary and the ledger to ensure alignment.
What you need to succeed: At least 2 years of solid experience in Spanish payroll processing.
Knowledge of local Spanish labor requirements, statutory forms, and reporting.
Strong communication and collaboration skills: English and Spanish speaking is essential.
Business software experience required: intermediate level of Google Sheets or Excel.
Knowledge of Wolters Kluwer A3 software and Netsuite would be highly advantageous.
International payroll experience would be beneficial.
Nice to have: Experience in complex payrolls (BIK, flexible retribution, stock options/RSU, non-residents…).
