Context And Mission
We seek a passionate and talented Climate Modelling specialist to join our Natural and Social Hazards (NaSH) group. In this role, you'll have the chance to work in a multidisciplinary team that aims to develop methodologies and products related to risk maps as well as early warning products, with a strong focus on solving real-world problems. This position will focus on how climate change might affect different hazards, we are interested in profiles that have experience in one or several of the following: hydrological drought/water stress, wildfire, extreme events, hydrology, atmospheric modelling. You will have the chance to drive the direction of future team projects. The methodologies that will be developed within these projects are based on physical modelling, sometimes assisted with AI/ML. We look for someone who is a quick and willing learner, and who is not afraid to get involved and form part of a close-knit team.
Key Duties
Contribute to studying climate processes and their impact on regional and local weather patterns at various time scales.
Collaborate on planning, designing, developing, testing, and maintaining software products with a multidisciplinary team.
Contribute to developing and implementing catastrophe risk models for humanitarian and insurance sectors, enhancing societal resilience to natural hazards and mitigating climate change impacts.
Find gaps in existing methodologies to design new projects.
Contribute to writing funding applications.
Requirements
Education
To have a Ph.D. degree in climate modelling, meteorology, atmospheric physics and dynamics or any other related field.
Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
Proven track record in climate/risk modelling applicable to this role
Experience with physical models.
Experience or strong interest in AI/ML tools and their application to modelling atmospheric phenomena will be considered a plus.
Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
Proficiency in English is a must. Good handling of Spanish is a plus
Demonstrates inter-dependence and ownership in managing projects to completion.
Experience with data analysis in languages such as Python.

Focuses on providing excellent applied science research
Project management skills. Possesses strong understanding and organizational skills with attention to detail and reliability.

We offer a full-time contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, support to the relocation procedures
Duration: Open-ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration
Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement
Salary: we offer a competitive salary commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate and according to the cost of living in Barcelona
