Learn more athttps://www.Jnj.Com/ .The Senior Director, Scientific Licensing - Oncology role is a key member of the J&J Innovative Medicine Business Development team that helps shape the Oncology external innovation scientific strategy and supports its execution by identifying, evaluating, and negotiating opportunities that align with disease area external innovation strategies.
This role will foster and build important internal and external scientific relationships and lead the assessment and diligence teams across the R&D Matrix.Key Responsibilities:Key member of the Oncology Scientific Licensing Team within J&J IM Business Development and responsible for helping to shape the TA business development strategy in alignment with the overarching TA strategy.Accountable for execution of the TA business development strategy including proactive identification of target opportunities and companies including leading the process by which systematic screening in areas of interest is performed such that no opportunities are missed.This individual will be responsible for proactively building and maintaining strategic and scientific relationships with target companies including attending business development conferences (e.G., JP Morgan, BIO, etc.)
and key medical congresses (e.G., ASCO, EHA, ASH, SITC, etc.).
Ability to stay informed on emerging science and technology to be in a position to monitor and proactively pursue select targets, modalities and companies.Lead the scientific evaluation of multiple ongoing target opportunities (including the coordination and management of the formal due diligence process) across the R&D matrix, collaborating with the global commercial team to provide scientific input to commercial assessment and ensuring scientific evaluation addresses key value drivers.Ability to assess scientific data and feedback from all stakeholders to develop a clear perspective on each opportunity.The ability to navigate the internal organization will be critical and this person will be responsible for establishing and developing key stakeholder relationships in R&D leadership, identifying internal scientific champions for business development opportunities, and managing the upward scientific communication of external opportunities.The individual will be accountable for ensuring that all business development opportunities progressing to contract negotiation and beyond meet the internal portfolio standards of scientific excellence, that development risks are identified, adequately communicated, and debated with R&D leadership and that mitigation strategies are captured and accounted for in the development plans and costs.The individual should have strong executive presence with the ability to synthesize and clearly and concisely communicate complex scientific data & diligence findings and risks to Sr. Management.In collaboration with the TA Department Heads and VP, Business Development, responsible for ensuring that R&D resources are engaged in an orderly, efficient, timely and cost-effective manner in the evaluation of external opportunities for the TA.In collaboration with other JBD colleagues, contribute to the development and enhancement of processes, templates, and data capture systems to be utilized by the business development group to attain the highest professional standards in the execution of duties.Qualifications:A minimum of a MD or PhD is required.Minimum of 10 years of experience in Oncology Drug Discovery or Drug Development with a large portion of that experience being gained in an industry setting is required.Pharmaceutical experience required.Experience participating on scientific due diligence teams is preferred.Work experience in business development or previous position in licensing is preferred.This role requires up to 30% domestic and international travel with ability to attend medical congresses that span the weekend.This role is based out of Spring House, PA, with frequent travel to Titusville, NJ and New Brunswick, NJ.The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs.
Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan.
The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation's performance over a calendar/performance year.
Bonuses are awarded at the Company's discretion on an individual basis.Employees and/or eligible dependents may be eligible to participate in the following Company sponsored employee benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance.
Employees may be eligible to participate in the Company's consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).
