As a Mechanical Engineer on the Ample team, you will work on the design of subsystems for the Ample Battery Swapping Station. You will be responsible for quickly taking complex designs from concept, analysis, prototyping to testing. Working closely with our electrical and software teams you will rapidly develop innovative concepts to help us scale our system while improving reliability.
What you'll do: Develop solutions to system level concepts from list of requirements to production. This will include critical thinking, leading PowerPoint and CAD based design reviews, utilizing hand calculations and FEA to develop functional prototypes. Conduct product testing, provide assistance to electrical and software engineers to release a production grade system while under an ambitious timeline and other priorities. Create, document, and release 3D CAD and 2D GD&T drawings for complex system designs, utilizing knowledge in CNC, sheet metal, additive manufacturing, injection molding, die casting, and welding. Assemble prototypes and rapidly iterate on design, focusing on DFM, cost, and DFMA. Design automation components and subsystems for Ample's battery swap station. Design structures and architectural elements for Ample's battery swap station. Design fixtures and assembly aides to improve ergonomics, speed and repeatability. What You'll Bring: Bachelor's or Master's in Mechanical Engineering or similar field Bilingual in English and Spanish; C1 level required, C2 level preferred Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals including machine design, statics, materials and manufacturing. 3-5+ years of experience designing mechanical components, structures, enclosures, assemblies. 3-5+ years using computer-aided design tools such as SolidWorks, NX, Creo, Catia. Experience in Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). Troubleshooting, testing and analysis experience such as FEA. Knowledge of manufacturing techniques such as CNC, forming, welding, casting. Proven hands-on experience working on prototypes and assemblies. Self-motivated with the ability to navigate uncertainty and ambiguity. Bonus Skills and Experience: Experience designing automation systems from list of requirements to mass production. Strong electrical fundamentals with good understanding of robotic sensors, control electronics, and closed loop feedback mechanisms. Experience in using ANSYS to perform FEA on system level. SAE team experience: Formula, Formula electric/hybrid, Baja. Experience working with overseas vendors. You must have permission to work in Spain to apply for this role.
