About the business Are you ready to be part of a growing and dynamic team of energy market analysts? As the energy transition moves forward, we are looking to increase the depth of our analytical focus on biofuels markets. We are therefore seeking a highly analytical and proactive Biofuels market analyst to join Cepsa's trading group in Madrid, with a primary focus on biofuels markets in Europe, alongside global coverage of key biofuel feedstocks. The candidate will be responsible for building a broad up-to-date understanding of current and future supply and demand fundamentals of biofuels and biofuels feedstocks, including production capacity, supply, trade flows, and demand, with special attention to their price dynamics. The role requires close collaboration with biofuels traders to support their decision-making by providing comprehensive, timely, and accurate data and analysis on these markets.
The responsibilities we´ll trust you with Research and maintain capacity information on biofuels (including biodiesel, renewable diesel, ethanol & other) production plants, including current and expected future plants. Estimate current and forecast supplies from these facilities. Primary detailed focus is on European plants, with an eye to global coverage as it impacts imports of biofuels to Europe.In collaboration with internal regulatory analysts, estimate current and future implied biofuels demand arising from the latest government mandates, both for a base-case and scenarios.Gather supply, demand and trade-flow data on global biofuel feedstocks (such as vegetable oils, used cooking oil (UCO) and waste-based feedstocks). Estimate and forecast the use of these feedstocks and their implications for required mandates.Build dynamic forward balances that include an estimate for price sensitivity in demand and supply as key price levels and price differentials vary.Track and analyze key biofuel and biofuel feedstock prices across major global centers. Identify key price relationships and present regular insightful market views on expected future price changes.Identify additional biofuels trading opportunities by undertaking scenario analysis including market disruptions or policy change. Model longer-term compliance solutions with renewable fuels from non-biological origin.Collaborate with other energy market analysts to gather data, coordinate market fundamentals and share market insights.Prepare detailed market reports and presentations for the trading team and senior management.What are we looking for? Experience: 3+ years of market analytics experience in energy markets, preferably within trading and preferably in Biofuels.Bachelor's degree in economics, Math, or other quantitative field. A master's degree is preferred.Experience modelling supply and demand factors, creating forward balances and analyzing price dynamics.Experience working with traders to identify important market data and trading opportunities is preferred.Strong quantitative and analytical skills, particularly in supply-demand modelling and understanding price formation and price risks.Proficient in data analysis tools and methods (i.e. Excel, Python, Tableau).Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex data and ideas to traders and other stakeholders in a clear, actionable format.Knowledge of European and global biofuel and biofuel feedstock markets, including trade flows, price drivers, and regulatory impacts.Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced trading environment, responding quickly to market changes and trader needs.
