The Manager, Trade Operations & Compliance collaborates with Global Operations & Compliance to ensure that transactions satisfy legal requirements to file complete and accurate export and import declarations with local customs and other government authorities for international shipments. This position assists with the development and management of a comprehensive export/import framework to ensure compliance within Spanish and regional regulations. The Manager will collaborate with local teams and build strong relationships with the Production/Materials planning, Legal, Logistics, and Tax Teams, as well as upskill/train as required. Your key responsibilities will be:Manage Projects and Tasks, as assigned, within the team and/or with external teams and/or vendors.Oversee the operational processes for assuring trade compliance review and approval relating to valuation, export licensing, technical data, foreign travel, re-exports, re-transfers, and export and import shipments in Spain under EU regulation, including local laws.Be responsible for trade compliance matters relating to customs exports and imports for DS, DP, APIs, consumables, clinical, machinery, lab equipment, and any other materials moving across borders (valuation, classification, preference of origin, country of origin, export controls including restricted party screening) in accordance with Spanish law and EU regulation.Provide technical advice on Customs topics such as classification, origin, valuation, Special Procedures, etc.Lead and manage trade compliance review, audits, and risk management.Implement action for resolution of export/import compliance problems, questions, or complaints.Ensure configuration and control of the export/import registry and trade compliance documentation is maintained.Ensure accurate maintenance of trade compliance records (import/exports) in accordance with Spanish and local requirements.Support new process requirements across the business.Establish and maintain relations with appropriate government regulatory agencies.Provide performance metrics for export and import processes.Make professional judgments as to when to refer decisions/issues to the lead manager and keep the manager informed at significant checkpoints.Ensure standardized and integrated international trade procedures are implemented to maximize corporate efficiency and minimize regulatory risk.Main responsibility for the customs broker relationship.The key Moderna Mindsets you'll need to succeed in the role:Pursue options in parallel: This mindset will allow you to evaluate multiple approaches simultaneously to ensure optimal solutions for trade compliance and operational efficiency.Act with urgency: The dynamic nature of international trade requires quick, decisive actions to ensure compliance and address issues promptly, minimizing risks and delays.Here's What You'll Bring to the Table:Bachelor's degree in a related field (Business, Economics, Finance, Supply Chain Management, International Business) or equivalent experience in place of a degree.Minimum 8 years of work experience, including at least 4 years of experience in a compliance, legal, auditing or investigation role in life sciences, preferably in the biotechnology, medical device, and/or pharmaceutical industries.Strong operational knowledge and experience in import and export compliance policies and audit procedures.Experience and knowledge of bonded warehouses, special regimens and 3PLs.Knowledge of GDPR.Strong customer focus, work ethic and integrity.Experience of working in a fast-paced environment.Strong interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team, with a positive attitude.Strong critical thinking with sound judgment and decision-making skills.You love what you do, and it shows.A curious mindset that allows you to constantly learn and challenge the status quo.Must be self-directed, proactive, motivated, and a fast learner.Able to work independently.Excellent written and oral communication skills.Ability to work confidently within groups in a multinational company and respond to global/cultural sensitivities.Communicate effectively in English, spoken and written.Excellent time management.Knowledge of SAP GTS and SAP Fiori.Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications with a focus on Excel.
