The Enterprise Risk Management organization within Global Risk, and Compliance (GRC) is responsible for identifying and managing risk across all processes and geographies at American Express.
The incumbent will report to the Head of Risk Management EMEA, Spain Chief Risk Officer (CRO), and strengthen risk management in Europe by performing independent risk assessments, providing effective challenge to first line teams and their strategies, and ensuring that significant risks are properly evaluated and effectively communicated to senior management and the Risk Committee(s) of the Board(s) for mitigation.
We are seeking an experienced and passionate risk professional who will be responsible for evolving the local Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program including enhancing the oversight function in line with best practices set by our corporate policies.
Key Responsibilities:
Support the CRO with the governance framework including the Risk Committees
Conduct independent analytical reviews and sample-based testing of risk processes and provide effective challenge to first line teams
Identify risk metrics to continuously identify, monitor and oversee risk – both known and emerging risks.
Monitor and enhance the Risk Appetite Framework
Develop and coordinate scorecards, dashboards, and senior leader presentation, responsible for maintaining the adequate governance processes as part of the risk oversight functions allowing effective challenge to the risk-taking functions.
Evaluate the inherent and residual risks using relevant applicable framework and methodology, including the use of quantitative methods.
Develop and manage the Emerging Risk Framework to identify, assess and inventorise Emerging Risks.
Review compliance on safety and soundness areas of law.
Own and manage policies and procedures framework for the legal entities in Spain.
Collaborate with internal and external auditors in the review of the ERM framework.
Generate reporting for relevant governance bodies.
Qualifications:
Strong analytical skills and business acumen with a risk-reward control perspective.
6+ years of experience in financial services and risk management processes, framework, and systems
Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple priorities under pressure.
Familiarity with Enterprise / Operational Risk Management (or similar experience) processes and framework.
Familiarity with regulatory and industry landscape in Spain / EU.
Experience in interacting with regulators is a plus.
Project management experience is a plus.
Programing experience (SQL, hive), strong technical skills to perform data evaluation and analytics.
Proactive in identifying issues, delivering, and escalating key findings, and advising on recommended solutions to mitigate risks.
Proven ability to learn skills and knowledge on demand in a compressed timeline.
Leadership skills with experience as a people leader, to drive performance by coaching and motivating people for success, identifying their strengths and opportunities.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills to successfully drive results timely in a fast-paced environment with constantly changing priorities.
High degree of attention to detail and strong track record with data and report accuracy
Ability to partner and engage with multiple stakeholders.
Courageous leadership and ability to define and communicate goals, roles, and oversight findings to business partners and senior executives.
Excellent inter-personal relationship skills and a highly professional approach for interactions with all levels of management and across business units.
Self-directed individual who can work independently with minimal supervision as well as in a team environment.
Fluent in English and Spanish, and outstanding written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office software including experiencing building and using large-scale reports and databases.
Advanced degree in Business, Engineering, Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Law or MBA or similar field of study
