Context And Mission
The Life Sciences Department is composed of 6 research groups and 7 technical units covering the main areas of Computational Biology and bioinformatics, including genome analysis and annotation, structural bioinformatics, network biology, and text mining.
The Department hosts the coordination and technical nodes of the Spanish National Bioinformatics Institute (INB-ISCIII) node of ELIXIR. Overall, the department has as a common goal the technical, computational, and scientific challenges in the field of Personalised Medicine.
Cross-sectional to the research groups and units, there is a Life Science Scientific Coordination unit in charge of developing collaborations, new contacts, and scientific projects across the Department, as well as ensuring appropriate communication with the management and financial departments of the BSC.
The mission of this role is in the framework of the growing need to monitor the management and ethics of sensitive data in biomedical projects at the BSC premises, from its acquisition (formalised with appropriate data transfer agreements) to its use during the project (with the appropriate security provisions) and its storage or destruction after the project's finalisation (in accordance with the signed specific agreements).
The selected candidate will work closely with scientists that use these data and with the internal departments to ensure that ethical, legal, and security provisions are aligned.
