Reporting to the Manufacturing Engineering head, this post leads a team of engineers and technicians to oversee all activities relating to soldering processes and machines including but not limited to the design, setup, qualification, implementation, and control of soldering processes starting from new products to end of life products targeting zero soldering defects.
Other tasks like equipment maintenance and improvement, new processes and machines, technology identification and implementation, and equipment and process standardization and consolidation are also critical areas he/she needs to take care of.
This soldering engineer should understand the principles behind and have hands-on experience with all kinds of soldering processes, particularly but not limited to wave, reflow, selective nozzle, induction, hand, and robotic soldering processes and machines, PCB design, and DFM related to soldering, soldering materials like solder, flux, and solder paste, rework and IPC-7711/7721, and workmanship and acceptance standards like IPC-A-610.
Responsibilities Lead a soldering team – consisting of engineers and technicians for activities regarding all wave soldering processes and machines in factories.Early involvement in NPI – to ensure new products have high manufacturability, focusing on DFM, PFMEA, and Process Qualification, and meeting the new product's quality and cost requirements.Design and setup soldering processes – including rework processes, fixtures, and tools to target zero soldering defects.Resolve soldering issues – tackle soldering defects based on actual data and structured problem-solving methods.Process control – develop and maintain robust process control to ensure a consistent and zero-defect soldering process.Soldering equipment maintenance – ensure they are always in good condition and manage spare parts.Work closely with Process Engineering and Automation team – to enhance soldering process efficiency and quality.Standardize soldering practices – ensure the same process practices are used across all soldering machines.Continuous improvement – strive for continuous improvement of efficiency, quality, cost, and utilization of soldering equipment, processes, and labor.Consolidation of lessons learned & best practices – develop and maintain a knowledge base for process standardization and training.Qualifications
