We are looking for a passionate Lead 3D Character Artist to bring their skills to our Dungeons & Dragons PC/Console video game project.
This innovative project blends Action-RPG/Survival mechanics with the unique elements of life simulation games to redefine the genre and capture the imagination of gamers around the world.
As a Lead 3D Character Artist you will: Provide strong leadership and thoughtful direction to a team of 3D Character Artists.
Create (Sculpt, Model, UV, texture, and create materials) high-quality characters and creatures.
Deliver excellent translations of characters while considering game design constraints and respecting a strong artistic direction.
Work closely with the Art Director to ensure the visual target is always exceeded and stylistically consistent.
Provide creative and technical direction to character artists, and be an active motivator in team discussions, critiques, and reviews.
Actively participate in technical and aesthetic problem-solving discussions for the entire project.
Coordinate with tools and technology teams to develop necessary solutions for creating the best characters possible.
Review assets to make certain that they satisfy their intended design and are ready for rigging and animation.
Collaborate with other disciplines such as Design, Concept Art, Animation, Tech Art, and VFX to ensure that characters are fully realized.
Verify the quality of assets in the game, and make improvements where necessary to fit technical constraints, performance targets, and artistic direction.
Supervise bug distribution and verify bug fixes.
Create and maintain a transparent and reliable schedule that is well-coordinated with production.
Ensure the timely completion of assets on style and at the desired quality bar.
Mentor 3D Character Artists by providing creative and technical training, guidance, and feedback.
Document and communicate workflow and best practices to support consistency across the Character Art Team.
Qualifications High-quality portfolio of gamedev-relevant 3D Character Art, preferably with an emphasis on stylization.
Able to interpret and follow concepts and reference material to create clean, detailed, and accurate 3D Character models.
An excellent understanding of game mechanics related to characters, objects, and environments.
Understanding of technical constraints for cross-platform production.
Experience integrating 3D assets into industry-leading game engines such as Unity or Unreal (Unity experience is a desired plus).
Experience with Marmoset Toolbag and 3D-Coat.
High proficiency in modeling programs such as 3DSMAX, Maya, Blender, Zbrush, and texture/material authoring tools such as Photoshop and Substance.
Excellent high and low poly modeling skills, as well as demonstrable skill with texture and shader creation within a PBR pipeline.
