**Requisition Number**:5483**Pay Rate**:PGR16**Location**:Houston, TX, US**Category**:Other**Description**:Basic FunctionProvides lead expertise and takes professional responsibility for mechanical and electro-mechanical engineering work for a multi-modal transit system. Involves 4design, review, and/or the investigation and diagnosis of various complex mechanical and electro-mechanical engineering systems; part level and system level testing, including system integration testing; preparation, modification and review of METRO processes, design criteria, technical specifications and drawings, engineering reports, contracts, etc. for various projects; following Safety Management System (SMS) processes,Manages complex projects either directly or through the management of outsourced engineering. Monitors performance of work to ensure projects are on schedule, and in compliance with contract requirements and related industry design, analysis, and maintenance standards. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures.Responsibilities and Specific DutiesProvides lead mechanical & electro-mechanical engineering expertise and support for LRT, BRT, local bus, HOV Lanes and/or other transit corridors, METRO facilities and equipment, and other projects.**Responsibilities include, but are not limited to**: designing and analyzing structures such as mast arms and/or columns to secure rail/bus/HOV signals and signs; various piece parts andassemblies for the maintenance of LRVs/buses - such as lifting equipment and supports; all related mechanical design documents, engineering analyses and reports (including Finite Element Analysis, FEA reports), test plans, procedures and reports, manufacturing instructions and drawings and assembly,installation and integration documents for various mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment and systems.Creates or aids in the creation of Safety Management System (SMS) processes, including creation and/or review of Preliminary Hazard Analyses, Hazard Analyses, Verification Matrices and Safety Certificates.Is familiar with and can work to ASME's Y14 codes and standards (including GD&T;) for designing mechanical systems and creating engineering drawings (in AutoCAD and MicroStation, etc).Is familiar with, or is a member of, NAFEMS (International Association for the Engineering Modelling, Analysis and Simulation Community), and able to create simple to moderately complex mechanical simulations and FEAs independently, using i.E., SOLIDWORKS, Pro/Engineering, ANSYS,etc.Manages complex projects either directly or through the management of outsourced engineering.Monitors performance of work to ensure project is meeting designated milestones, on schedule, and in compliance with contract and technical requirements.Works with a team of engineers, and other stakeholders to accomplish project milestones and deliverablesAct as a mentor for junior staffProvides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers.Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidentsPerforms other job-related duties as assigned.Education RequirementBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field required.Years & Experience Required10 years progressive responsibility in the design and analysis of mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment and control systems,with preference to experience relating to public transportation vehicles and electrified systems.Knowledge & Skills RequiredLicensed as a Texas Professional Engineer or able to acquire licensure within 6 months of hire.Comprehensive experience and expertise related to the following is required:CAD software such as AutoCAD or MicroStation, and experience creating and reviewing for approval Finite Element Analyses using i.E., Pro/Engineer, SOLIDWORKS, ANSYS, etc.**Familiarity with, or membership in the following is preferred**: ASME, AREMA, NAFEMSExperience with rail track and structures are preferredStrong communications (written/verbal) skills requiredProficient in MS Office productsValid Class "C" Texas Driver's license is required for the job; must meet METRO's motorvehicle records requirements.Additional InformationFurther,employees who perform safety-sensitive functions will submit to drug and/or alcohol testing in accordance to the Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) regulatory requirements.We provide equal opportunity to all qualified individuals regardless of race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, veteran status, genetic information or disability.**Nearest Major Market**: Houston
