The opportunity: Work with Amey on one of the UK's most exciting rail projects. TRU is a once-in-a-generation rail upgrade programme to deliver faster, longer, more frequent, and more reliable rail services across the north of England, from Newcastle, Hull and York towards Manchester and Liverpool via Leeds. By connecting the major cities of the North with an enhanced, more reliable service, it has the potential to impact the lives of thousands of passengers and support economic growth across the whole of the north of England. Amey, in partnership with Arup, BAM and Network Rail is upgrading the route between Manchester and Leeds, which includes civils, track, railway systems and electrification.Working with Amey on TRU is essential for anyone serious about a career in rail. You will be pioneering new techniques, using the latest technology, and helping us set new standards for collaborative working.The role: The Rail Systems Director will lead projects on the Transpennine Route Upgrade West of Leeds alliance. You will be accountable for delivering all rail systems works on the project safely and in accordance with legislation, Amey procedures and Alliance procedures to contract specification and programme, while building and sustaining long term customer relationships.Key responsibilities:Accountable for the delivery of all Rail Systems works.Consistently demonstrate the Alliance Principles, Values, and behaviours.Making all decisions based on a best for project/programme basis in line with the Project Alliance Agreement (Alliance contract).Effectively lead and line manage the Rail Systems functional team (including other Alliance Participant staff and supply chain staff in this functional team).Accountable for agreeing with the senior leadership team all Rail Systems resources (Staff, Labour, plant, materials, subcontracts) required to deliver the projects and manage the effective provision of these resources to the Projects.Deliver all Rail Systems commitments made in line with project baselines including requirements, budgets, schedule, and performance metrics.Accountable for the development of the overall procurement strategy for all Rail Systems works, awarding this alliance wide contracts and then ongoing management of these contracts.Accountable for the account management of all Rail Systems suppliers.Work collaboratively with the other construction leads to ensure collective delivery through sharing of key resources and best practice.Accountable for reviewing and approving the Rail Systems element of all Estimates and Section Proposals.What are we looking for from you?Project management experience; experience of scoping, planning, controlling, and monitoring projects against agreed scope and of delivering within agreed constraints of time and cost and to the required quality standards.Significant experience in delivering projects in accordance with the management of CDM 2015 Regulations.Commercially competent with significant experience leading projects in varied contract types including target price.Experienced at negotiating and managing deliverables from third party suppliers as part of a project deliverable.Experienced at producing regular written project reports showing clear status updates.The ability to identify risks, issues, and dependencies, manage them through a RAID log and provide escalations and recommendations where required.Experience of identifying and managing change requests to agreed project scope.Demonstrable analytical skills with knowledge of research and marketing and an evidence-based approach.Excellent project management skills and the capacity to deliver outcomes on time and to budget.High level of self-motivation and resilience and the ability to meet demanding targets within deadlines and to be flexible by adapting quickly to changing priorities.Good facilitation and presentation skills, able to run meetings or workshops as required by the project.Comfortable with coordinating and collaborating with business teams to drive required decisions and outcomes.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and quality.Membership to a Professional Body.Desirable:Member of a relevant professional body with chartered status and/or educated to degree level.Knowledge of/experience in the UK Rail industry.Personal Track Safety.NEBOSH Certificate.In return: Our rewards make us feel valued here at Amey.
