We promote Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, fostering an environment where each and every one of us is appreciated for who we are, regardless of our differences.Context And Mission: The Department of Earth Sciences of the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre-Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is one of the most active groups in air quality and atmospheric composition modeling, climate prediction, and climate services in Europe. The candidate will work in the ESS group, which develops climate and air quality services. The main purpose is to demonstrate the ongoing value of climate prediction services, atmospheric composition, and weather forecasting to society and key sectors of the economy. The ESS is seeking a Junior Research Engineer who is willing to engage in multidisciplinary research and develop user-tailored products for European and national projects. The role will entail conducting in-depth research on downscaling methodologies for air quality data and investigating the correlation between indoor and outdoor air quality levels.Key Duties:Analyze and evaluate model results against observations; prepare charts and reports.Develop machine learning and AI workflows for downscaling air quality data.Conduct multidisciplinary research, working with scientists, IT developers, and policy-makers.Communicate scientific results within the Department, in international conferences, and write quality papers in scientific publications.Requirements:Education: Master in Meteorology or related disciplines.Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience:Experience in indoor/outdoor air quality data (1 year).Experience in statistical methods in R and/or Python.Previous experience with Geographic Information Systems.Ability to work in a professional environment and within a multidisciplinary research team.Demonstrated verbal communication and technical presentation skills (English is a must).Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience:Experience with UNIX/LINUX environments and GIT.Experience in model development and application in parallel computing environments will be valued.Willing to travel.Competences: Fluency in English. Fluency in other European languages will also be valued.Conditions: The position will be located at BSC within the Earth Sciences Department. We offer a full-time contract (37 hours per week).
