We are looking for a Junior Designer, Design Systems to work with the Design System team, combining innovation and usability to contribute to the creation of our leading design ecosystem from a product perspective.
Overview
In this role you will create experiences that engage and appeal to customers, enhance our usability and improve the user experience through the use of imagery, color, shapes, typography, and form, ensuring our experiences appear trustworthy, informative and true to our brand. The ideal candidate should have a passion for user-centric design and the tools and processes that make it happen. You'll evangelize the Design System throughout the organization and expand the Design System to multiple products.
Your expertise should bring an understanding of component-based design and design systems to contribute to a scalable, sustainable approach that enables speed to market, evolution, and optimization.
You will be part of transforming and optimizing the impact, productivity, and scalability of UX at Dow Jones.
This will be a highly collaborative role in a team partnered with SMEs, Editorial, UX Architecture, UX Design, Engineering, Research, and Product.
The Junior Designer, Design Systems will report to the Senior Manager, Design Systems.
Responsibilities:
Help support and maintain Dow Jones' design system.
Contribute to the creation of components in the design system to make them reusable and expandable across our products, constructing component libraries, guidelines, and templates.
Work closely with Experience Architects and Experience Designers, as well as Design Technologists to design and update components.
Produce detailed hand off documentation for development.
Ensure that the Figma library is kept up to date and is built with best practices.
Be open to industry best practices and visual design principles in your solutions.
Contribute to the creation of visual patterns in our design system.
Explore and validate solutions by creating/modifying prototypes for user testing.
The Design System is built Accessibility-First, so collaborating with the Accessibility Lead to ensure appropriate accessibility standards are implemented and tested is a necessary part of the job.
Contribute to the design team's culture through collaboration, feedback, and process iteration.
Independently deliver on projects and work with others on teams.
Serve as an advocate for our audience, keeping their needs at the heart of our digital solutions.
Required Skill Set:
Minimum 0-1 years experience in a similar role.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
Strong grasp of UI, HCI, and UX principles.
Understanding of best practices for mobile, web-based, and responsive design.
Experience with component-based design.
Experience working with Design Systems, leading to a higher quality and more consistent product design.
Familiarity/experience with G-suite products and experience with professional collaboration tools such as Jira, Miro, Confluence, and Airtable.
Experience working with Figma.
A strong portfolio that demonstrates your experience and UX skills, illustrating step-by-step solutions for features.
A portfolio that displays expertise using design systems, and a demonstrated ability to think through end-to-end solutions with a strong user-centered approach.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Role requires 3 days each week in office (as per current mandate, may change).
Plus:
Experience in the design of News or Financial Services.
Familiarity with WCAG accessibility standards and compliance.
