Internship Wastewater Treatment Plants Of The Future: Brine Treatment

Currently, nitrification-denitrification is the most common technique for the removal of nitrogen from municipal wastewater. In the future, municipal wastewater plants should become energy and carbon neutral. It is hardly possible to achieve these requirements with the nitrification-denitrification process in combination with more stringent discharge limits. Therefore, different treatment technologies are required. With ion-exchange the more stringent discharge limits can easily be reached. However, io-exchange produces a concentrated brine, which should be treated and partially reused. Your goal The goal of this internship project is to develop a process which will separate the ion-exchange brine into a valuable nitrogen fertilizer, a clean brine suitable for reuse in the process, and a small waste stream which can be discharged. What will you be doing? We have listed it for you: You will investigate the feasibility of new brine treatment concepts: Performing lab experiments with new brine concepts. Performing pilot experiment with new brine concepts. Investigating the feasibility of new brine treatment concepts with theoretical calculations and the results of the experiment. Internship available from January 2025 onwards. Who are you? BSc or MSc Chemical, (Bio)Process, Civil or Environmental Engineering. Flexibility and indepence. Curious and analytical. Professional command of the English language in words and writing. Command of the Dutch language is desirable, but not required. Minimum 4 months internship. Working for us means An internship allowance of €350,- per month based on full-time employment. Possibility of a contract after your graduation. A buddy who will show you around in our organization. Reimbursement of travel expenses of €0.23 cents per km up to a maximum of 75 km if you live further than 10 km from our office and do not have an Ov-card.
