In this role, you will be responsible for testing, maintaining, and troubleshooting protective relays within electrical substations. This position offers the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art equipment and technologies in a dynamic and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities Conduct relay testing and full lifecycle commissioning of substations (15kV to 500kV)
Perform system checks, wiring verification, and functional testing of protection equipment
Troubleshoot and analyze problems with relay and protection systems using tools like Doble protection, ProTest, and AcSELerator
Execute maintenance activities on substation equipment such as circuit breakers, transformers, and relays
Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance using a variety of testing equipment including multimeters, ohmmeters, circuit breaker analyzers, and more
Test and calibrate relays such as differential, overcurrent, ground directional, and transformer pressure relays
Perform inspections and create reports for substation operations, equipment loads, relay targets, and more
Work closely with commissioning engineers to check new installations and make necessary adjustments
Carry out switching operations and follow safety protocols, reporting any abnormalities
Ensure accurate documentation of all testing and maintenance activities
Essential Skills and Experience Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent education/experience
3+ years of relay testing and substation commissioning experience (15kV to 500kV)
Expertise in high-voltage systems, including switchgear installation and double-testing equipment
Proficiency in SEL/GE relay systems and equipment
Knowledge of substation lightning stroke shielding and grounding plans
Familiarity with substation remote alarms and auxiliary equipment
Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and analyze protection systems
Experience with utility clients and leading technical meetings
Ability to drive and travel frequently to client utility sites across the U.S., with overnight stays
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
OSHA 30 certification (or willingness to obtain, with company support for renewal)
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word
Ability to work with small, delicate, and complex electrical equipment in a team or independently
Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without need for sponsorship
