Post-doctoral and Research Engineer Positions in Quantum
ICFO is offering postdoctoral and research engineer positions to well-qualified, highly motivated, and dynamic young scientists who wish to enhance their scientific career in a friendly and stimulating environment. The successful candidate will be joining the Optoelectronics group led by Prof. Dr. Valerio Pruneri.
The group has experience in the study and development of new advanced materials, devices, and systems for information and communication technologies, particularly displays, image sensors, and cybersecurity. The main goal is to carry out research that bridges academia and industry by developing fundamental ideas with great potential for revolutionizing future photonic products.
The candidates will work on projects aimed at building the next generation of quantum cryptography, entanglement distribution systems, quantum imaging, and processing. The hosting group has developed technology for continuous variable quantum key distribution and quantum random number generation, which are now being commercialized by two ICFO's spin-offs, Luxquanta and Quside, respectively. The next step is to develop entanglement and decoy state-based systems for secure communication and quantum connections for both ground and space segments, as well as quantum processing and imaging devices. The group is currently involved in several European projects.
Minimum Requirements:
Candidates must hold an internationally recognized Ph.D.-equivalent degree (or evidence of its completion in the nearest future), preferably in Physics, Electrical, or Electronic Engineering. The candidate should have a proven track record in:
Nonlinear effects and entanglement generation
Free space communication
Signal processing (post-processing)
Software interfaces
ICFO is an equal opportunity employer. Candidates are selected exclusively on merit and potential based on the submitted application material. No restrictions related to disabilities, citizenship, or gender apply to ICFO positions. ICFO abides by the principles of openness, efficiency, transparency, supportiveness, and international comparability as stated in the European Charter for Researchers and the European Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers.
Salaries for ICFO Postdoctoral positions are assigned by the Selection Committee based on the experience and seniority of the applicant, as well as the assigned tasks and responsibilities within the group. Standard salaries range from a lower level aligned with national Ramon-y-Cajal fellowships to higher levels aligned with Marie Sklodowska-Curie individual fellowships. The contract is offered for periods of 1 year, renewable. Additionally, a family allowance is available on request and after corresponding approval for people with family charges in the terms described in the corresponding policy.
