GNC Modelling and Simulation EngineerDEIMOS is selecting one engineer to be integrated into the GNC/AOCS Competence Centre of the Flight Systems Business Unit, to develop Modelling and Simulation solutions. These assets will support the growth and maturation of the areas in Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC), including Attitude and Orbit Control Systems (AOCS), and Failure Detection, Isolation, and Recovery (FDIR).The work of the GNC/AOCS Competence Centre is oriented to the design, development, specification, and validation of autonomous systems, including GNC and AOCS systems, for a broad range of aerospace and aeronautical platforms. Modelling and simulation are key activities for attaining accurate, computationally efficient environments that support the development and validation of GNC/AOCS solutions. The quality of the models and simulation environment ensures the high fidelity of the GNC results, and delivers a validation framework with representativeness close to real flight conditions. As a matter of reference, DEIMOS' activities cover:Satellite formation flying, rendezvous, in-orbit servicing (IOS), and active debris removal (ADR)Entry, descent, and landing on planets (Earth, Mars) & natural satellitesLaunch vehiclesEarth observation, up-stream (flight segment) and downstreamInterplanetary exploration and navigationUnmanned autonomous vehicles (UAVs, UGVs)System and mission designMain Duties:The following types of responsibilities are envisioned:Specification, design, implementation, and validation of environmental, spacecraft, sensor, and actuator dynamics, to be applied to Earth-observation, interplanetary, and ADR/IOS satellites, among othersDevelopment and maintenance of tools for model validation and versioningSupport to CC wide strategies for code re-usability and scalabilityThe activities involved may include:Specification and validation of simulation and modelling solutionsMathematical modelling and development of dynamic systems of actuator, sensors, and vehicle, launchers and spacecraftsExtension and adaptation of the simulation models according to manufacturer specificationsSimulation infrastructure scalability, maintenance, and productionAnalysis and trade-off of hardware solutionsInterface with the overall system teamTechnical managementEducation:Required: A recognized engineering degree (Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, Electronic) or a related degree (e.g., Engineering).
