It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, and is a key player in European HPC infrastructure. BSC's mission is to research, develop, and manage information technologies to facilitate scientific progress.Context And Mission:Within the Earth Sciences Department, led by Prof Francisco Doblas-Reyes, the successful candidate will be part of the Performance Team, focusing on R&D tasks in Earth system modelling (ESM) performance.Key Duties:Profiling and implementing computational optimizations for Earth Sciences applications on high-resolution configurations using European HPC platforms.Developing the department's common tools, benefiting various sub-groups within the Earth Sciences department.Collaborating closely with the Climate Variability and Change (CVC) group and external collaborators/software vendors.Requirements:Education:Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related discipline.Master's degree is a plus.Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience:Excellent computing skills in high-level computer languages (especially Fortran or C/C++) and experience with Unix/Linux environments and scripting languages (Bash, Python, etc).Programming skills for managing large collaborative projects with experience in git and/or SVN.Knowledge of HPC performance and profiling tools such as Intel Vtune.Experience in running and optimizing scientific codes on large HPC systems.Understanding of HPC architecture and parallel programming.Experience with Unix- or Linux-based HPC systems.Competences:Excellent problem-solving skills.Proactive attitude and motivation for continuous learning.Good written and verbal communication skills in English.Conditions:The position is located at BSC within the Earth Sciences Department.
