Job title: Head of Technical Operations
Location: Madrid, Community of Madrid, Spain (Hybrid)
TGRC is looking for a Head of Technical Operations for a European Solar Energy Developer with a 25GW Solar and Storage Portfolio.
The Head of Technical Operations will lead the Engineering and Technical team, ensuring oversight and leading all technical aspects across the Project Portfolio. In addition, support Project and Corporate Development, Delivery, Construction and Operation Departments along the project lifecycle, with internal and external third-party resources. Furthermore, provide technical oversight and support during the construction phase, supervising EPC contractors, suppliers' documentation, and detailed designs. Address complex technical issues on-site during construction until the operational phase.
In addition, you will collaborate closely with Heads or Directors of Development, Delivery and Procurement, Grid, Construction Director, Asset Management, Legal, Compliance, Health and Safety to integrate specialized functions into projects and engineering.
Responsibilities:Oversee key relationships with internal and external stakeholders throughout the entire pipeline lifecycle, spanning origination, development, procurement, financing, construction, and operation.
Lead the technical aspects during development, conducting feasibility studies, collaborating with development partners across diverse geographies, and reviewing deliverables such as layouts, single line diagrams, energy yield assessments, and environmental assessments.
Provide crucial input to the Investment Committee by analyzing new opportunities, emphasizing technical opportunities, and highlighting associated risks.
Oversee and lead all technical due diligence processes for project acquisition or divestment, engaging with external technical advisors, sellers, or buyers.
Lead the technical facet of the procurement phase, collaborating with the Procurement Manager to define technical specifications, evaluate contractor proposals, and negotiate with suppliers and contractors.
Offer technical support to the Asset Management team during the operational phase of projects on an ad-hoc basis.
Establish and optimize robust technical and commercial relationships with industry-leading technical service providers, including Technical Advisors, Technical Consultants, and Owners of Engineering firms.
Recruit, retain, and develop a world-class Engineering team to provide top-notch support to the business.
Create comprehensive reports on the technical progress of the project portfolio, providing risk and opportunity analysis to the team and management, and proposing new KPIs for enhanced efficiency.
Effectively manage and distribute workload among team members, negotiate deadlines, and anticipate business needs to optimize the level of detail in inputs and outputs.
Develop the Engineering team as a Center of Technical Excellence, mentoring team members and establishing specialized training requirements.
Provide technical training to colleagues across the company and ensure the implementation of Design for Safety in every project.
Oversee technical site visits, controlling technical aspects, quality control, and health and safety assessments.
Participate in Engineering forums with industry leaders, assessing opportunities for new technologies, analyzing product roadmaps, and evaluating feasibility.
Requirements for Success:Significant experience (10 years plus) leading high-performing Engineering teams in renewable energy projects, preferably in solar and storage
Additionally, a degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil/Structural).
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills,
Furthermore, manage diverse stakeholders, including technical advisors, consultants, project managers, owner's engineers, investors, EPC companies, and suppliers.
Moreover, interested in working on new opportunities in an innovative and dynamic environment.
In addition, proficiency in English is mandatory; knowledge of Italian, Spanish, French, or Greek is a plus.
Furthermore, strong technical and commercial acumen with negotiation skills throughout all project phases.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage in senior-level discussions (Executive and Operational committees) and with external leadership teams.
Independent self-starter with attention to detail, capable of managing a multidisciplinary team across multiple geographies and deadlines.
