Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Planning and Implementation: Develop and drive the vision for the department through the Subject Group Development Plan (SGDP) and Subject Group Handbook.
Manage the allocated budget based on the SGDP.
Evaluate department performance using data tracking, lesson observations, and student feedback.
Align department decisions with school policies and the ICS Promise.
Ensure documentation is accurate and ready for NEASC accreditation and IBO review visits.
Organize and lead purposeful department meetings focused on strategic goals.Student Progress and Data Tracking: Monitor and improve student outcomes across the subject group.
Analyze academic performance data and intervene where necessary.
Utilize standardized testing and external examination results to identify curriculum and teaching improvements.Teaching and Assessment: Foster a culture of excellence in teaching, learning, and assessment.
Observe and evaluate teaching standards, offering professional development where needed.
Implement common assessments and ensure standardization across the department.
Source innovative teaching resources to enhance learning.Curriculum Development: Maintain and develop a robust written curriculum aligned with IB standards and school goals.
Ensure vertical and horizontal articulation for smooth transitions between IB programmes.
Promote cross-curricular links and incorporate interdisciplinary units.
Leverage NAE partnerships and external resources for enriched learning opportunities.Staff Recruitment and Development: Build a positive and aspirational team culture.
Support recruitment processes and onboarding for new staff.
Create and track personalized professional development pathways for team members.
Delegate responsibilities to build leadership capacity within the team.Parent Engagement: Collaborate with parents to enhance student learning outcomes.
Ensure timely completion of assessments and feedback per the school policy.
Actively promote the work of the subject group and engage parents effectively.Leadership: Advise the SLT on curriculum, assessment, and teaching matters.
Support colleagues in their professional growth and ambitions.
Continuously develop your own leadership skills through professional development.
