HEAD OF EPIDEMIOLOGY & REAL WORD EVIDENCE
BARCELONA Overall description of the position Drive strategic decision-making and innovation by providing Epidemiology & RWE strategy, guidance, and leadership. This role leverages real-world evidence to generate a strategic life-cycle local evidence plan for pipeline and marketed products, maximizing product value and anticipating future company needs from early development phases.
Functions and Responsibilities: Systematically develop integrated local evidence plan to provide support for BI products based on gap analyses performed by asset teams. Design, develop non-interventional (observational) studies. Provide critical review and input on non-interventional study proposals, Expert statements and 'white papers', and data sources for RWE studies in the country. Develop/expand networks with cross-functional internal partners as well as with external stakeholders, such as local authorities, academic institutions, external experts, etc. Review, assess, and summarize medical literature to support study development, regulatory responses, and internal decision making. Proactive approach to the Asset Evidence Team: look for synergies with RWE Corporate strategy and bottom-up approach for local needs. Clearly communicate about RWE studies to internal and external stakeholders including: asset teams, franchise committee, local and global management, regulators, scientific and medical societies. Provide RWE and epidemiology advice and training to various in- and external stakeholders. Build up internal capabilities. Provide guidance and leadership to the local team. Develop talent management/development in OPU with cross-functional collaboration. Profile & Requirements: Training in epidemiology, medicine, outcomes research, health services research, economics, or a related field, with suggested alternatives as follows:
PhD or MD/PhD in epidemiology, outcomes research, health services research, economics or a related field plus minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in the healthcare industry (Pharma/Biotech preferred) or academia OR Master's degree (MS/MPH/PharmD) from an accredited institution with minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in the healthcare industry (Pharma/Biotech preferred) or academia OR MD with non-degree training in epidemiology, outcomes research, or economics with minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in the healthcare industry (Pharma/Biotech preferred) or academia, specifically including epidemiology research. Strong understanding of the principles of epidemiology and RWE. Understanding of the local healthcare and reimbursement systems. Understanding of the regulatory process and requirements. Knowledge of data sources and RWE-focused external experts/institutions in (country/region). Epidemiology methods background, statistical skills, and medical/pharmacological knowledge. Experience with healthcare claims and/or electronic medical record databases. Basic pharmacovigilance knowledge. Strong written and verbal skills (Spanish and English). Proactive, responsible, and accountable. Able to work independently as well as in cross-functional groups. Recommends improvements and alternative solutions to resolve problems.
