Join Us in Building the Future of Energy for EVs.
A Brief Intro About us - Click Here You'll be working with the Engineering team.
This team runs on leads, coffee, more leads, and an infectious passion to build operations and deploy teams and create a city-wide network of chargers.
They help bring alive the proposition of Exponent Enabled Rapid Charging so that our customers benefit from 15 min rapid charging at all times.
Our Philosophy: Break.
Believe.
Build - Break stuff.
Break assumptions.
Break the thumb rule. - Believe in the team.
Believe in the process.
Believe through failures. - Build fast.
Build passionately.
Build to simplify.
As a Head, you'll work closely with our Product and Engineering Teams to design and build world-class hardware and firmware solutions for Exponent's unique EV charging ecosystem.
You'll be responsible for overseeing both the hardware and firmware stack that powers our e^pack and e^pump, ensuring seamless integration to deliver cutting-edge 15-minute rapid charging.
This is a Functional Role - Your product is the team that delivers seamless 15 mins charging What you will do: - Lead the Hardware and Firmware Teams: Take charge of both hardware architecture and firmware development, ensuring smooth communication and collaboration between teams - Hardware Design & Production: Oversee architecture design, component selection, schematic creation, layout, and EMI/EMC optimization to ensure high-performance hardware for fast charging.
- Firmware Design and Production : Define firmware architecture, from hardware selection to enabling critical features (OTA, UDS), and optimizing algorithms for battery-charging performance.
- Develop Embedded Systems: Design state machines, communication protocols (CAN, UART, SPI), and develop firmware layers to ensure seamless interaction between battery and charger hardware.
- Take Designs to Production: Lead the team in designing, developing, validating, and deploying both hardware and firmware into production, while building reliability and safety mechanisms through FMEA and risk reviews.
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Manage cross-functional collaboration between hardware, firmware, mechanical, and supply chain teams, guiding the product from concept through production.
- Manage Quality and Team Growth: Own the engineering process and quality standards, while mentoring and building a high-performing hardware and firmware team.
Key Responsibilities: - Lead hardware and firmware architecture design and development - Own the integration of hardware and firmware, ensuring reliability and seamless communication - Manage communication with internal teams (Supply Chain, Test Validation) and external resources - Take responsibility for both hardware and firmware quality, from design to production - Ensure compliance with industry standards like ISO26262, MISRA C - Evaluate project budgets and resource allocation across the engineering teams - Drive innovation while fostering a resilient, high-performance team culture Must-Have Skills: - 8+ years of product development experience, with full lifecycle exposure from concept to production. - Hands-on expertise in hardware design, including electromechanical components, schematic/layout design, DFX, and EMI/EMC considerations. - Embedded systems experience, with a strong understanding of ARM/DSP microcontrollers, ADCs, GPIOs, and communication protocols (CAN, USB, SPI, UART). - Firmware development expertise in C/C++, RTOS/Linux, with experience in building scalable, reliable firmware stacks. - Deep knowledge of power electronics and embedded hardware, with visibility into firmware integration and optimization - Proven success in leading cross-functional teams, including mechanical design, thermal management, firmware development, and production readiness - Experience of working on HIL and SIL Setups Bonus Points for: - Knowledge of battery management systems and of charging for EVs. - Experience in algorithm design for real-time systems, and a knack for balancing hardware and firmware interactions. - Familiarity with static code analysis tools (LDRA/Polyspace) and version control systems like Git. - Experience in high-volume embedded device production with safety-critical applications What Matters to Us: - Quality of work - Approach to problem-solving - Resilience and the ability to learn from failure - Drive to build fast, fail fast, and iterate with passion About Us Exponent simplifies energy for EVs.
Co-founded by Arun Vinayak (Ather Energy's Founding Partner & Former Chief Product Officer) and Sanjay Byalal (Former hardware strategic sourcing and cell strategy lead, Ather and Former Supply Chain Lead, HUL), Exponent focuses on solving two sides of the energy problem by building the e^pump (charging station) and e^pack (battery pack) which together unlock 15-min rapid charging.
The 200+ strong team of passionate builders have a ton of EV experience and are currently looking for more builders to join one of the best EV teams in India to build & scale Exponent.
