The successful candidate will join the Computational Earth Sciences group to work on computational performance activities focused on porting the modules of the Earth Science models to accelerators. A key objective is to contribute to the development of kernels suitable to be executed on accelerators efficiently.Key Duties:Lead the department's research line on porting the modules of the Earth Science models to accelerators.Lead the department's activity on development of kernels suitable to be executed on accelerators efficiently.Contribute to research in the porting of Earth Science Models for novel architectures.Requirements:Education: Bachelor in Computer Science, Telecommunications, or related discipline. Having a Master's degree or PhD will be valued.Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience:Excellent computer skills in high-level computer languages (particularly FORTRAN and C/C++) and experience in UNIX/LINUX environments and scripting languages (bash, Python, etc).Previous experience in a scientific field related to the role, particularly climate or atmospherical modelling.Proven experience in accelerator porting, such as GPU porting, for numerical applications.Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience:Fluency in English is essential. Proficiency in Spanish and other European languages would be advantageous.Proven ability to manage large-scale, collaborative projects.Demonstrated skills in the use and support of Unix or Linux-based HPC systems.Competences:Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Proven leadership and management abilities.Writing skills for scientific journal papers.Conditions: The position will be located at BSC within the Earth Sciences Department. We offer a full-time contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, and flexible working hours. Duration: 4 years. Salary: 50.00,00€.
